On Saturday, India and Pakistan locked horns in the ongoing Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE. It was a one-sided affair as the Women in Blue thrashed the Fatima Sana-led side by 7 wickets and clinched an important win.

It was a low-scoring affair because Pakistan tumbled for just 55 runs. However, Shafali Verma still managed to script a world record despite an underwhelming knock.

Shafali Verma Scripts World Record in India vs Pakistan

India needed just 56 runs to win. Shafali opened the innings with Smriti Mandhana and scored a quickfire 12 (6), which featured a four and a six. With the 12-run knock, Shafali completed 3000 T20I runs.

Notably, the right-handed batter scripted history as she became the youngest cricketer to reach 3000 T20I runs.

The 22-year-old, aged exactly 22 years and 220 days, achieved the landmark during India’s Women’s Asia Cup 2026. She overtook Ireland’s Gaby Lewis, who previously held the youngest record at 24 years and 347 days.

Shafali Verma Fastest To 3000 T20I Runs

Not only is Shafali Verma the youngest to 3000 T20I runs, but she has also become the fastest to reach this feat by number of balls faced. The Indian also completed the landmark in just 2,182 balls, bettering Australia's great Alyssa Healy’s previous record of 2,321 deliveries.

Verma is the 16th woman overall and the third Indian, after Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, to join the exclusive 3,000-run club in the format.

Shedding light on Shafali Verma’s illustrious career, she has played 114 T20Is, amassing 3005 runs. Verma has averaged 28.08 and slammed 19 fifty-plus scores.

Shafali Verma Shines With Ball, Involved In Send-Off Fight With Pakistan Captain

Shafali didn’t just shine with the bat but rolled her arms over in the first innings and brought India their first breakthrough. 

Pakistan, batting first, openers Shawaal Zulfiqar and Muneeba Ali stitched 27-0 in just four overs. However, Shafali Verma derailed Pakistan’s momentum by rattling Muneeba Ali’s stumps with a sharp turning delivery.

As Muneeba Ali was making her way back to the pavilion, she received a fiery send-off from Shafali. Eventually, Shafali bowled three overs and registered the figures of 1/10 in her spell.

Her action really triggered Pakistan side and despite collapsing for just 55 runs, Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana gave a similar send-off to Shafali after taking her wicket. Sana got heavily trolled for her actions because of the situation Pakistan were in when she thought of mocking the India opener.
