Imam-ul-Haq Set To Drag Former PCB Mainstay To Court Under Defamation Charges

Pakistan Cricket is amidst a massive chaos with the team in England for the Test tour. Ahead of the final match of the series, the PCB sent seven of their players and two head coaches back home, including Imam-ul-Haq.

The Pakistan opener, who averages 34.53 after 31 Tests, decided not to come out bat in both innings after injurying his calf while fielding on Day 1 of the second Test match. However, if speculations are to be believed, Imam might have faked his injury. 

Imam-ul-Haq to take legal action against Mohammad Wasim

Amid all the drama, Imam-ul-Haq is considering to sent a legal notice to the former chairman of selectors, Mohammad Wasim, who didn't minced any words while talking about the chaotic incident.

Wasim, who served as Chief Selector for two years between 2020 to 2022, had stated that Imam has a long history of faking injuries, and the recent episode could be one of such incidents. 

The former Pakistan batter, furthermore, mentioned an instance from the Pakistan tour of New Zealand in 2025, where Imam had his toe injured.

As a result, the 30-year-old has decided to file a defamation case against Wasim, as reported by Daily Times. 

"Imam is considering sending a defamation notice to Wasim after the conclusion of Pakistan’s ongoing Test series against England," the report mentioned. 

Why were seniors, including Imam-ul-Haq, dropped and sent back home?

After the PCB took a massive call of dropping seven players in the middle of the ENG vs PAK Tests, it has been understood that seniors like Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha had issues with their fitness and performances. 

Moreover, there were some behavioural issues inside the dressing room during the tours of the West Indies and England. 

Additionally, the board is reportedly considering to ban the 30-year-old opening batter, but before that he, along with Rizwan and Agha, is expected to explain himself in front of a committee set by the PCB.

PCB's massive changes before must-win ENG vs PAK 3rd Test

Apart from the seven players, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul also received a stick from the Pakistan board after Pakistan lost back-to-back matches to England. 

For the third and final Test, white-ball coach Mike Hesson has been asked to cover in as an interim head coach of the Test side. Moreover, the seven Test specialists have been replaced by inexperienced players, of whom only Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal have played Test cricket.

Nevertheless, the upcoming Test won’t be any easy for Babar Azam’s men, as Pakistan have never won a Test match at Edgbaston Stadium- the venue for the third ENG vs PAK Test. Besides, if the visitors lose the upcoming match, it would be their first-ever whitewash in England.
