Team India is set to play a riveting Test series in Sri Lanka for the first time since 2017. A lot has changed for the Men in Blue since then, as all poster boys of Indian cricket have retired, with the next generation taking over.

The Kohlis, Sharmas, Pujaras, Ashwins, Rahanes have gone. Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav are the only players in the current squad from the Test team that travelled to Sri Lanka the last time around.

Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a massive force across formats for India, has not played even a single Test match in the Island nation, as the speedster made his Test debut in 2018.

Why is Jasprit Bumrah not part of Indian squad for Sri Lanka Tests?

Initially, Jasprit Bumrah was included in the Test squad for the IND vs SL Test matches, but subject to his fitness. The 32-year-old was ruled out of the final ODI against England last month after getting his knee injured.

However, he was ruled out of the entire series due to a persistent knee injury, which he actually sustained during the T20 World Cup 2026. J&K’s workhorse, Auqib Nabi, later replaced the speedster, earning his maiden India call-up

"Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka as he has not yet fully recovered from the left knee injury sustained during the ODI series against England. The Men's Selection Committee has named Auqib Nabi as Bumrah's replacement," the BCCI had said in a press release.
