With the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2027) still a distance away, the franchises are sweating it hard on the dressing board. Delhi Capitals (DC) have already traded Rishabh Pant from Lucknow, and they are looking to make a bunch of more such decisions.
Delhi, under Axar Patel and Hemang Badani, finished in sixth spot on the IPL 2026 points table, with seven victories and as many defeats after 14 outings.
Thus, days after the conclusion of the IPL 2026, the DC decided to part ways with lead spinner Kuldeep Yadav to acquire their former captain from LSG. In a recent move, the Capitals have summoned one of CSK's rejected youngsters and two more players for trials ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.
DC hold trials in Bengaluru; players from West & South Zones targeted
The Delhi Capitals have already begun their preparations, holding trials in Bengaluru, according to TOI's renowned journalist Gaurav Gupta.
Moreover, it has been said that the franchise is currently looking to target upcoming talents from the Western and Southern regions of the country.
If reports are to be believed, three of Mumbai's cricketers, Ayush Vartak, Ayaz Khan and Divyansh Saxena, have appeared in trials.

"Some IPL news... Delhi Capitals are having trials from today at Bengaluru for players from West and South Zone. Mumbai's Ayush Vartak, Ayaz Khan & Divyansh Saxena are appearing in the trials!" Gaurav Gupta posted on X.
Who are Ayush Vartak, Ayaz Khan and Divyansh Saxena?
Notably, batting all-rounder Ayush Vartak was called up by Chennai Super Kings last year in trials after Ayush Mhatre and Khaleel Ahmed got injured. However, the 21-year-old batter failed to bag a contract from the five-time champions last year. Recently, he represented North Mumbai Panthers in the Mumbai T20 2026.
Middle-order smasher Ayaz Khan and former U19 cricketer Divyaansh Saxena were among youngsters who missed out on selection for the IPL 2026 season.
Ayaz Khan played two matches in the recently concluded Mumbai T20, where he slammed a blistering knock of 35 not out vs Kalyan Tuskers. Meanwhile, Divyaansh Saxena, who led Arcs Andheri in the league, scored 261 runs at a strike rate of 174 in the same tournament.
DC had a failed IPL 2026 campaign despite having strong squad
Delhi Capitals had one of the most settled lineups on paper, but they failed to translate it into performances in the IPL 2026. Despite having established names in the batting order, the Capitals were particularly let down by their middle order on multiple occasions.
Apart from KL Rahul, no one else had a 300-run season, with players like Axar Patel, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs leaving the side in deep waters in multiple games.
Although DC have a strong batting core, which has gotten burlier with Rishabh Pant’s inclusion, they need to make amends to strengthen their lower middle-order in particular.
That said, the Capitals need to find an equally brilliant spinner after Kuldeep Yadav's trade, who can help them break partnerships in the middle phase of the game.
It would be interesting to see how things unfold for DC in the IPL 2027 mini auction, which will take place later this year.
