Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell provided New Zealand with all the muscle during the first innings of the IND vs NZ 4th T20I at Auckland on Friday. As a result, they posted the highest-ever T20I total against Team India, finishing on 259/7.

Phillips was the main showstopper with a stylish century, while the explosive Bracewell matched him stroke for stroke during his 25-ball 65.

Phillips, Bracewell share record 5th-wicket partnership vs IND

In the IND vs NZ 4th T20I, Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell shared 115 runs off just 41 deliveries at the Eden Park in Auckland. It is the highest-ever partnership for the fifth wicket against India. No pair has ever shared a century stand vs India for the given wicket.

Phillips and Bracewell’s gung-ho show broke the record previously held by South Africa’s David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

Highest fifth wicket partnership vs India (in T20Is)

  1. 115 - Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips for New Zealand, Auckland, 2026*
  2. 86 - David Miller, Tristan Stubbs for South Africa, Johannesburg, 2024
  3. 81 - Tim David, Marcus Stoinis for Australia, Thiruvananthapuram, 2023
  4. 77 - Colin de Grandhomme, Ross Taylor for New Zealand, Auckland, 2019
  5. 77 - Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks for England, Mumbai, 2026

Meanwhile, Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips were just one run shy from Phillips-Bevon Jacobs, who have the record for the highest-ever partnership vs India for any wicket.

New Zealand breach 200-run mark for fifth time against India in 2026

Thanks to the show put on by Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand shattered multiple records. Among them is helping the team go well over the 200-run mark.

Notably, this is New Zealand’s fifth 200-plus total this year against India, the joint-highest for any team in a single calendar year. The other team to do so is the Men in Blue, who have smashed five 200-plus team totals vs New Zealand in 2026.

Nevertheless, India would need something special from their batters to chase down 260 runs at Auckland, especially in the absence of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
