Sayali Satghare made instant impact on her Test debut, striking in just her second over of the opening spell against Australia Women. Opening the bowling for India Women at the WACA in Perth on Day 1 of the one-off Test ‘Down Under’, Satghare knocked over hosts opener Georgia Voll with a peach of a delivery.
The 25-year-old also appeared to unintentionally imitate a controversial Virat Kohli celebration, blurting out a word that conveniently rhymes with England’s Ben Stokes.
Sayali Satghare throws a slur at Australia’s Georgia Voll
Sayali Satghare threw a slur at Australia Women’s opener Georgia Voll after knocking her over with a peach of a delivery. Opening the bowling alongside Kranti Gaud and sending down the third over of the Australian innings late on Day 1 in Perth, Satghare’s delivery curved back sharply and hit the top of the cricketer’s leg stump, sending her back to the sheds for just two off eight balls.

Celebrating her maiden Test wicket on debut, the 25-year-old imitated a controversial Virat Kohli celebration, albeit unintentionally, by shouting a Hindi slur that rhymes with Ben Stokes.
The slur itself was popularized in the game by the former India captain, particularly during his Test-playing days. However, Virat Kohli still occasionally blurts it out during high-intensity moments in the IPL as well.

India makes early inroads with Sayali Satghare
Sayali Satghare got the ball rolling for Team India early in the Australia Women innings. Opening the bowling, the 25-year-old clean-bowled Georgia Voll for just two on the board in the third over. Voll’s opening partner Phoebe Litchfield also listed just nine off 39 balls before falling to Kranti Gaud as the hosts slipped to 31-2.
Sayali Satghare also curtailed the well-set stay of Australian captain and outbound cricketer Alyssa Healy with a full delivery outside off stump. The speedster deceived Healy as Australia plunged to 58-3.
Earlier in the day, India Women batted first and bowled out for just 198 in 62.4 overs. Shafali Verma unleashed a quick 35 off 48 balls at the top of the order despite losing early wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues at number four listed the lone half-century of the innings, composing 52 runs off 84 balls with seven elegant boundaries. Kashvee Gautam also made a crucial 34* while batting with the tail.
For Australia, Annabel Sutherland picked up four wickets at an expense of just 46 runs. Her teammates Lucy Hamilton (3-31) and Darcie Brown (2-41) claimed five wickets between them.
Satghare keeps India in the hunt on debut
Sayali Satghare, who made her ODI debut back in January 2025 last year, was roped into India’s Test squad for the one-off match against Australia, especially after excelling with the ball for the RCB franchise in WPL.
Getting her maiden Test cap just around the toss on Day 1 on March 6, the youngster justified her return to the national squad by getting crucial wickets with the new ball.
