Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again led Rajasthan Royals batting charge, this time against the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season. Mere days after knocking SRH out of the competition through his breathtaking 29-ball 97, the blistering left-hander blasted another 96 off just 47 balls.
The 15-year-old smeared eight boundaries and seven huge sixes at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh to record his eighth score of 50 or more in the IPL. The innings also marked the third instance of Sooryavanshi notching up a 90-plus score this season, with all of them occurring within his last four innings.
His unlucky streak with the bat has now earned him comparisons with the great Sachin Tendulkar, who also endured an unwanted run of ‘nervous nineties’ throughout his career.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi anchored the Rajasthan Royals before exploding in the second half of the innings to club 96 runs off just 47 balls. Shaping his sixth fifty-plus score of the season and his third in the last four innings, each of those three recent knocks have ended in the 90s.
Indian cricket fans were quick to point out Sooryavanshi’s ‘unlucky’ run this IPL 2026 season, as the 15-year-old just missed an opportunity of adding three hundreds in his early career. Some fans even compared him with Sachin Tendulkar, calling him “unluckier” than the legendary cricketer for his unwanted streak of 90s.

As it happened, Rajasthan Royals lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for just a single to Mohammed Siraj in the opening over of the match. Dhruv Jurel at number three was also dismissed for just seven by Kagiso Rabada.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi subsequently forged a fighting partnership with Ravindra Jadeja to lead Royals’ counterattacking recovery. The youngster minted 96 runs off just 47 balls, and retained his ‘Orange Cap’ by extending his IPL 2026 tally to 776 runs in just 16 innings.
Jadeja compiled 45* off 35 balls, while Donovan Ferreira blasted two boundaries and four huge sixes in his thunderous 11-ball 38* as the Rajasthan Royals mounted 214-6 in 20 overs.
