Bangladesh coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumder recently shared a heartwarming story involving India’s rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. According to Majumder, Sooryavanshi once took him to a restaurant during Bangladesh’s Under-19 tour of India, describing the moment as the beginning of their friendship.
As of now, the Indian youngster seems to be busy in raising his stocks with almost every passing game. Just a couple of days ago, the 15-year-old stormed the Rajasthan Royals franchise into the second qualifier of the IPL 2026 season with his record-shattering innings in New Chandigarh.
Bangladesh coach reveals Sooryavanshi’s unseen side
While speaking on BDCricTime, BCB Development coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumder talked about the time when he first met Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during an Under-19 tour of India.
It is worth noting that the Bangladesh Under-19 team toured India way back in late-2023 for a Quadrangular Under-19 50-overs series, involving India A U19, India B U19 and England U19 as other competing teams of the tournament.

Ashiqur Rahman Majumder claimed that Vaibhav once approached him when he looking for a place to eat outside the Bangladesh team hotel.
He said “When we went to Andhra Pradesh for a tournament, I was looking for a place to eat downstairs. At that time, the then Under-19 captain Amaan [Mohamed Amaan] and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi were there. I was standing there trying to figure things out when Vaibhav came from behind, tapped my shoulder and asked, ‘Sir, what are you looking for?’ I told him I was searching for a restaurant. He immediately said, ‘Come with us.’”
The Bangladesh added that he has since grown quite fond of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and the two often talk about each other’s families.
Majumder said “From that day, I developed a really good bond with them. Later we started talking about our families, sharing stories and spending more time together. Sometimes I paid for the food, sometimes Vaibhav did, sometimes Amaan did. Slowly, the relationship became very special.”
Majumder in awe of Sooryavanshi’s work ethics
The Bangladesh fielding coach also added that he was quite impressed with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s work ethics and training philosophy.
When he asked Sooryavanshi about his training regime, the young Rajasthan Royals opening batter responded “When I asked him about technical work, he said, ‘Sir, there is no technique. Just watch the ball and hit it.’ That means he simply watches the ball and plays his shots. If someone practices hitting the ball for four hours every day, naturally it becomes automatic in match situations. I truly believe his hard work is what has made him such a special talent.”
Sooryavanshi takes IPL 2026 by storm
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi seems to be stacking up records for fun in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Just a couple of days ago, the 15-year-old blasted 97 runs off just 29 balls against the SRH in the Eliminator match of the tournament.
While the youngster narrowly missed the opportunity of notching up the league’s fastest century in history, he surpassed Chris Gayle’s all-time record of launching the highest number of sixes in a single edition of the tournament.
The belligerent Rajasthan Royals opener struck 12 sixes in the innings to extend his IPL 2026 tally to 65 maximums, thus going past Gayle’s 59 sixes record from IPL 2012.
His innings also helped the Rajasthan Royals crush the SRH by 47 runs to storm into the second qualifier match of the season. The Royals will now take on the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season on Friday, May 29.
The match will be hosted by the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
