The Delhi Capitals franchise has just committed a cardinal sin, the same that haunted the Punjab Kings in the first half of the game. Facing each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in match number 35 of the IPL 2026 season, players from both sides spilled some easy catching opportunities on the field.

For the Capitals, senior pro Karun Nair dropped raging Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer twice in the space of a minute, doing so towards the fag end of their high-scoring cracker.

Moreover, Nair dropped Iyer twice in the space of a minute at one stage, doing so in the 15th and 16th overs of the Punjab Kings innings off Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling.

In the last ball of the 15th over as bowled by Nigam, Iyer was dropped by Karun Nair at long-off, who spilled a sitter at the position, doing so at the time when the Punjab Kings skipper was batting at 28* off 20.

A couple of deliveries later in the following over, Nair dropped Iyer once again at long-on to deny ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav of a well-deserved wicket.

As one can expect, fans were quick to take to social media and take Karun Nair to the cleaners for depriving Delhi Capitals of a certain two-pointer. Many fans even made hilarious memes at the expense of the cricketer after Punjab Kings cantered to a comfortable win. Here is a look at some fans reacting to Nair’s fielding blunders.

Shreyas Iyer makes Delhi Capitals pay

Making the most of his twin escapes, Shreyas Iyer ended up slapping a 26-ball half-century before the end of the 16th over itself. The cricketer clattered two boundaries and five huge sixes by the time of reaching the landmark figure.

His innings helped the Punjab Kings blaze past the Delhi Capitals’ humungous 264-run total with more than an over and six wickets to spare. The outcome marked the highest successful run chase in IPL history, bettering their own effort against the KKR from a couple of years ago.

The foundation of Punjab Kings’ high-scoring heist was laid out by its attacking openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. In pursuit of 265 runs, the two batters started off by a record 126-run partnership in just 6.5 overs, with Prabhsimran making 76 off 26 balls with nine fours and five sixes.

Priyansh also made 43 off 17 balls, before captain Iyer clobbered 71* off 36 balls with three boundaries and seven sixes.

KL Rahul shatters huge records with an epic 152*

Earlier in the match, it was KL Rahul who made the most of his early escape. After getting dropped by Shashank Singh at just 12* inside the powerplay overs, the elegant opener plundered 152* runs off just 67 balls with 16 boundaries and nine sixes.

The innings marked Rahul’s sixth IPL century, and one of the highest individual scores ever recorded by any batter in the history of the tournament.
