India suffered their 2nd straight series loss after the Shreyas Iyer-led side suffered a nine-wicket defeat in the 4th T20I. England now lead the five-match series 3-0, and the caravan shifts to Ageas Bowl in Southampton for the dead rubber match.

India are winless in their last 6 T20Is, and the coach-player duo of Gautam Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer are under the scanner. The BCCI too has confirmed a review meeting, which means that changes are required and they are required now.

India vs England 5th T20I: Preview

For England, they went ahead with an unchanged XI. Since the upcoming clash is a dead rubber, England might make a few changes to manage the workload of certain players. However, for India, there will be changes, but the reason is different.

The 5th T20I is a perfect opportunity for Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir to finish off with some pride and also make a few changes to the playing XI. Therefore, this article will shed light on India’s predicted playing XI for the 5th T20I vs England 2026.

India Likely Playing XI vs England- 5th T20I

Openers and Top Order (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson)

Despite the top-order failure, India will look to give a long rope to its top order. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has had three flop innings, but the management also needs the kid to finish the series on a high, which is why benching him would not be a great idea.

Similarly, Abhishek Sharma has done well in the series with two forty-plus scores and amassed 128 runs in 4 innings, averaging 32.00. The biggest question is Ishan Kishan’s place in the team.

The southpaw has struggled since the 2026 T20 World Cup, and it will be difficult to bench the No. 1-ranked T20I batter. However, it is possible that Ishan Kishan might be pushed down the order to make way for Sanju Samson.

Sanju has been out of the team for the last two T20Is, and India can try him at No.3. Therefore, it allows Suryavanshi and Abhishek to be explosive at the top.

Middle Order and All Rounders (Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge)

India are lacking batting quality in the middle-order. Other than Shreyas Iyer, no other batter has performed. Tilak Varma has been underwhelming, and follows him Washington Sundar. Hence, the Men in Blue need batters who can go all out attack in the middle-overs.

Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar are most likely to be axed, with Ishan Kishan batting at No.5. Further, Shivam Dube should be promoted at No.6.

Suryavansh Shedge should replace Axar Patel in the team. The PBKS star was given just a solitary match to prove his mettle and has been sitting on the bench since then. Spinners are clearly not working in England, and India need more pace-bowling options.

Bowlers (Axar Patel, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna)

In one interesting options, India can actually push Axar Patel down the order. Vaun Chakaravarthy is injured, which is why the DC captain will be a part of the playing XI. Rest, Prince Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna will be the other three bowlers because there is no other pace bowler left in the squad after Harshit Rana’s injury.
