The 6th edition of The Hundred is set to begin on July 21, with 8 teams competing across 68 matches for the prestigious title. With less than 2 weeks left for The Hundred 2026, all franchises are roping in players to replace injured stars. In the latest events, former Pakistan seamer Mohammad Amir has also penned a deal.
In a significant boost, Trent Rockets have signed Mohammad Amir for the Hundred 2026 as a local player. It will be the fourth team Amir will represent in The Hundred after London Spirit, Oval Invincibles (now MI London) and Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Leeds).
Mohammad Amir Replaces David Payne As Replacement
Initially, Amir was not in the plans to play the Hundred 2026. However, an ankle injury to David Payne ruled him out of the tournament. Payne underwent surgery and won’t recover in time before the start of The Hundred 2026.
“Fast bowler Mohammad Amir will replace David Payne, who continues his recovery from an ankle injury. We wish David all the best in his recovery.”
There were reports that Amir will join Trent Rockets, but there was uncertainty over which player he would replace. For the unversed, Trent Rockets dealt a double blow. Alongside David Payne, Matt Henry is unlikely to play the upcoming season due to injury.
Why Will Mohammad Amir Not Be Considered As An Overseas Player?
Similar to the IPL, the Hundred also allows a maximum of four overseas players in the playing XI. However, the left-arm seamer will be considered as a local player because a few months ago he was granted a british citizenship.

Amir’s wife is British, and the former Pakistan seamer had applied for a British passport a long time ago. Now, he will play as a local, which also makes him eligible to register for the IPL 2027 auction.
Mohammad Amir Reflects On Being Part Of Nottingham
Notably, before joining Trent Rockets, Amir had also signed a short deal with Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast. Hence, it was assumed that he would also pen a deal with Trent Rockets as well.
Amir has joined the Nottingham club as a local player as well. The left-arm seamer also reflected on his new journey.
"I'm really excited to have joined Notts," Amir said. "I've heard lots of good things about this club, and I'm looking forward to it. I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about entertaining the people, so I'll be trying my best to do well for this team and make this crowd happy," remarked Amir as quoted by ESPN.
Mohammad Amir’s The Hundred Career Explained
Amir doesn’t enjoy a great stay at The Hundred. He has already represented London Spirit, Oval Invincibles (now MI London) and Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Leeds).
However, the upcoming season will be interesting because he will be up against IPL-owned sister franchises. For the unversed, four of the eight teams have gone private and are now partially or fully owned by IPL franchises.
