"Records exist to be surpassed or beaten" as a widely known motivational saying in cricket. Recently, a famous Rohit Sharma record was broken by an Austria batter.

Rohit Sharma, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, has countless records and achievements to his name. Won the T20 World Cup twice in 2007 and 2024, the former Indian captain once had most runs in the format. However, Babar Azam leapfrogged Rohit in early 2026.

Nevertheless, with 4231 runs in the shortest format, Rohit Sharma has a untouched legacy as a T20I batter. He still has the joint record for most hundreds in T20Is, along with Glenn Maxwell, scoring five tons.

However, Austria's Karanbir Singh has broken a rare record previously held by Rohit Sharma.

Karanbir Singh breaks Rohit Sharma's record of most T20I sixes

Austria's Karanbir Singh has gone past the legendary Rohit Sharma in terms of most sixes in T20I cricket. The right-handed batter recently smacked a gung-ho 164 off 57 balls vs Hungary at Szodliget, where he smoked 18 fours and 12 biggies.

In terms of numbers, the 30-year-old already has slammed 207 sixes in the shortest format while playing just 60 T20I matches. The next on the list are Rohit Sharma with 205 maximums in 159 games and UAE's Muhammad Waseem (196 biggies in 99 T20Is).

Karanbir almost broke Aaron Finch's landmark 172 - the highest individual in T20Is. Although he had the chance to break the milestone record, the Austrian opener was dismissed in the antepenultimate over.

However, Karanbir’s blasting century and Abidullah Kotwa’s unbeaten 93 off 26 balls helped Austria post a mammoth 322/7 - the second-highest T20I team total ever. The only total ahead of them is Zimbabwe’s 344/4 vs Gambia in 2024.
