Team India created history on Sunday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when they defended their T20 World Cup title, becoming the first side to win back-to-back world titles.

Rohit Sharma received recognition for the foundation he laid after he led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup victory, a triumph that was highlighted when Suryakumar Yadav became the fourth Indian captain to secure an ICC title.

Why Yuzvendra Chahal chose Virat Kohli over Rohit Sharma?

While commenting on the same during the final between India and New Zealand, star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal shared an anecdote from the previous T20 World Cup final, which involved Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

While commentating during the final between India and New Zealand, Chahal recounted the emotional moments immediately following India's victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Following the historic win, the entire team rushed toward Captain Rohit Sharma, but Chahal notably went to Virat Kohli.

"In 2024 T20 WC Final, when we won, everyone was running towards Rohit Sharma. I cleverly ran towards Virat Kohli to get extra footage," Yuzvendra Chahal said during the final between India and New Zealand last Sunday.

Yuzvendra Chahal's misfortune in T20 WC

Despite being the format's most effective bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal was unable to play a single game in the 2024 title-winning tournament, even though he was a part of the squad. Furthermore, he has never featured in a match in any T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the leg-spinner hasn't been named in any India squad post the 2024 T20 World Cup, as the team management moved on from Chahal to the likes of Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

Interestingly, the final of 2024 T20 World Cup was the last T20I for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, as the trio retired from T20Is after India's famous victory. As a result to that, the baton was passed on to Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Jasprit Burmah, who formed a brilliant core.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have may retired from the shortest format, but they still are an integral part of the ODI squad for India

India on path of history

With the latest title, India have not only the team with two T20 World Cups in a row, but also became the first side to win a T20 World Cup at home. Now, the Men in Blue hold the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy.

If they secure the ODI World Cup in 2027 scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, they would make history as the first men's team to simultaneously hold all three ICC white-ball trophies.

Australia are the only team apart from India to hold two ICC trophies at the same time, when they held the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy simultaneously twice in 2003 & 2006 and 2007 & 2009.
