India's coaching setup under Gautam Gambhir is undergoing a major change. In a significant development, fielding coach T Dilip has parted ways with the team ahead of the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.
The development comes shortly after assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate stepped down from his position. He has decided to part ways with the Indian team in order to spend more time with his family in London.
It is likely reported that Ryan ten Doeschate will join Kolkata Knight Riders' coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027.
The recent changes are seen after a disappointing run of results for Team India under head coach Gautam Gambhir. India struggled throughout the UK tour, managing just one win in six matches against Ireland and England.
Under T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, India suffered a 2-0 series defeat against Ireland, followed by another underwhelming performance in the five-match T20I series against England. These results have reportedly prompted the BCCI to review the current coaching structure.

T Dilip quits Indian cricket
According to a report by Indian journalist Nitin K Srivastav, India’s fielding coach T Dilip has now parted ways with the team. As a result, he will not travel with the squad for the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.
"Fielding coach T Dilip's tenure has come to an end, and he will not travel with the Indian team for the upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka." Nitin K Srivastav wrote on X.
It is important to mention that T Dilip joined the Indian coaching staff in 2021 and quickly became an important member of the support staff. He initially joined under former head coach Rahul Dravid and was later retained during Gautam Gambhir's setup.
Why Did The Indian Team Decide To Part Ways With T Dilip?
T Dilip's time as Team India's fielding coach has come to an end after a steady decline in the team's fielding performances over the last few tournaments and series.
His contract expired after India’s recent white-ball tour of England in 2026.
The fact cannot be denied that India’s fielding standards have come under heavy criticism in recent months. The team dropped several important catches during major tournaments, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, T20 World Cup 2026 and the recent tour of England.
It is vital to note that India dropped 11 catches during the tour of England and another 10 during the Zimbabwe tour.
Although India won the T20 World Cup 2026, their fielding remained one of the biggest concerns.
The team dropped 15 catches during the tournament, the highest by any team, and finished with a catch efficiency of 72%, the lowest among all participating nations.
With the tenure of T Dilip already ended, it would be interesting to see who the board will appoint as the next fielding coach.
