With the IPL 2027 season still more than a year away, trade rumours have already become one of the biggest talking points among fans. The latest speculation involves two teams, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their captains, Hardik Pandya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

According to reports, CSK is interested in bringing Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya to Chennai. In return, Mumbai is reportedly looking for players like Ayush Mhatre, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, along with an additional ₹10 crore.

While these rumours circulating on social media, another claim has also surfaced that CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad could leave the franchise before IPL 2027.

Having said this, in this article, let's take a look at whether Ruturaj Gaikwad will leave CSK?

Are Ruturaj Gaikwad's CSK Exit Rumours Actually True?

The short answer is 'NO'.

At present, there is no official confirmation from either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Chennai Super Kings suggesting that the star player is leaving the franchise before IPL 2027.

CREX can confirm that no specific media report claims that CSK is parting ways with Gaikwad.

He was appointed as CSK captain on March 21, 2024, taking over the leadership role from MS Dhoni just one day before the start of the IPL 2024 season.

So far, Gaikwad has captained CSK in 33 IPL matches, winning 14 and losing 19. His record has come under scrutiny after Chennai struggled in recent seasons, while he also missed several matches during IPL 2025 due to elbow injury.

Should CSK Part Ways With Ruturaj Gaikwad?

Based on everything currently available, the answer appears to be no.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remains one of CSK's most important Indian batters and is considered a long-term investment by the franchise. Since taking over from MS Dhoni, he has remained a crucial figure in the team's plans despite inconsistent results.

The Chennai-based franchise retained him for ₹18 crore ahead of IPL 2026. Overall, looking at his IPL stats, he has played 85 matches and made 2839 runs at an average of 38.36 and a strike rate of 135.64.

While the management may expect him to improve his strike rate and provide stronger starts during the powerplay, releasing or trading a player of his quality would be a surprising decision.

Could Hardik Pandya's Arrival Change CSK's Leadership Plans?

Much of the current speculation has been driven by reports that CSK want to trade Hardik Pandya from Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2027. If Hardik joins CSK, it would strengthen one of the team’s biggest weaknesses by adding an experienced Indian pace-bowling all-rounder.

His presence could also add a captaincy option alongside Sanju Samson and current captain Ruturaj.

However, until an official announcement is made, both the Hardik Pandya trade and any suggestions of Ruturaj Gaikwad leaving or losing the captaincy remain speculative.

As things stand, Gaikwad continues to be CSK's captain, and there is no credible reality that he will leave the franchise before IPL 2027.
