A lot has been expected to change within the Indian team management, especially after the horror show in the United Kingdom, where the Men in Blue won just a solitary fixture out of 10 matches against Ireland and England.

After the UK tour, Team India has flown to Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The BCCI has given a rest to the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and his colleagues, with VVS Laxman travelling as caretaker of the team.

India will kickstart the series on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club, while the remaining two matches will also be contested in Harare on July 25 and 26.

Team India part ways with T Dilip ahead of IND vs ZIM

As reported earlier, the Indian team's fielding coach T Dilip’s contract will expire after the England tour, and the BCCI is not looking to hand him another extension.

According to well-known journalist Rohit Juglan, Dilip’s stint with the Indian cricket team has come to an end, and the 45-year-old coach has not travelled to Zimbabwe with the Shreyas Iyer and company for the three T20Is.

"T. Dilip’s extended stint as fielding coach has officially come to an end - He is not travelling with the team to Zimbabwe. Another extension unlikely as per sources. But what a contribution after R Sridhar," the journalist reported via X.

T Dilip's contribution to Indian cricket

Notably, T Dilip took over India's fielding reins from Ramakrishnan Sridhar, who was with India in over 300 international matches between 2014 and 2021 during the tenures of Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble.

However, Dilip joined the Men in Blue when Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach in late 2021. He later joined the backroom staff with Gautam Gambhir after Dravid left.

Under the veteran fielding coach, India became fitter, agile and more technically sound. He also introduced the iconic fielding medal, which was a hit during India's impressive campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The trend was continued in the T20 World Cup triumphs in 2024 and 2026.

Moreover, the 45-year-old has a certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), alongside Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Level 1 and BCCI’s Level 3 qualifications.

Gautam Gambhir to lose more coaches from backroom team

It was earlier speculated that T Dilip might continue with the BCCI, which was looking to hand him another extension, but it may have hit a roadblock.

That said, India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel are reportedly considering their options with IPL franchises.

The Indian board will hold a review regarding India’s failure against Ireland and England, where head coach Gautam Gambhir and the two captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer will be evaluated by the top officials.
