Why England players are wearing Red Caps Vs NZ [Source: @englandcricket/x.Com]
The T20 cricket fever is over, and the caravan shifts towards the truest form of the game (Test cricket) and the first Test match of the summer takes place between the hosts, England, and the visitors, New Zealand, at the iconic Lord’s, London.
The two sides will collide in a three-match Test series, and the matches will be a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The last time these two teams met for a Test series in England, the hosts prevailed 3-0, and that was the start of the Bazball era as England demolished the Kiwis.
For the first Test match against the Black Caps, the England Test team has decided to ditch their traditional Navy Blue cap and will wear a special Red Cap, and here’s why.
Why are England players wearing Red Caps Vs New Zealand
In 2018, former England cricketer Andrew Strauss started the Ruth Foundation as a tribute to his late wife, who tragically died of a rare lung cancer. A heartbroken Strauss setup a charity in her memory which gives support to fund lung cancer research and support to patients and their families.

Strauss setup the foundation with advice and help from former Australian cricketer, Glenn McGrath, whose wife passed away from Breast Cancer complications.
As a tribute to Strauss' wife, the England players will wear the Red Caps on the first day of the first Test against New Zealand. This is a tradition that the England side has been following for the last 9 years.
England have already announced their playing 12 for 1st Test
As England often do, the Three Lions have revealed their playing 12 for the first Test match against the Kiwis. The management has handed debut caps to two players, Emilio Gay, and Sonny Baker.
Jacob Bethell, who was doubtful for the first Test match, has recovered from the injury he sustained in the IPL, and will bat at number 3. Ben Duckett will have a new opening partner as England aim to start the series with a statement win.

England under pressure as team languishes in WTC points table
Nothing has gone right for England in the ongoing WTC cycle, as the team is once again set to miss out on a place in the finale. Their red-ball team plays an exciting brand of cricket, but the results have been difficult to come by.
In the ongoing cycle (WTC 2025-27), the Ben Stokes-led side has played 10 Tests and has won just 3 matches, and has lost 6. They have a win percentage of just 31.67 as the side needs to beat the Kiwis, 3-0, to stand a chance of qualifying.
