The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) kept both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for India Vs Afghanistan ODIs, scheduled to get underway on June 13 in Dharamshala. Unfortunately, it appears that both Rohit and Kohli might not play a single game during the three-match series.
Earlier, it was reported that Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the India Vs Afghanistan ODIs. To make matters worse, recent reports have emerged that even Rohit might follow his footsteps.
Rohit Sharma Yet To Join BCCI's CoE
According to a Cricbuzz report, Rohit Sharma is yet to report to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE). Nevertheless, it has also been added that Rohit is confident enough to be ready for the India Vs Afghanistan ODIs, and will soon begin his preparations, as per Rohit's camp at Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Not to forget, Rohit Sharma had a hamstring injury in between IPL 2026 and missed out on a few games for Mumbai Indians (MI). Later, after coming back from injury, he was seen used as an impact substitute, possibly due to his fitness management.

Now, time will tell whether Rohit will return to action full fledgedly for India Vs Afghanistan ODIs. He is supposed to train in Mullanpur during the latter stage of the one-off Test match between the two sides, which will get underway on June 6 and will run till June 10 if it goes for five days.
Rohit Sharma's World Cup 2027 Dream Lives On
Now aged 39, Rohit Sharma does not play in Tests and T20Is. He has retired from both formats, and his only focus remains on ODIs.
Hence, the dream is to win the ODI World Cup next year, which will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia during the October-November window.
Under Rohit Sharma, India seemed to be the team to beat throughout the ODI World Cup 2023 at home. Unfortunately, it all ended in the all-important final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, as Pat Cummins’ Australia shattered the dreams of the billions.
Thus, Rohit and Kohli would love to complete the revenge, and the greatest stage of all would be the ODI World Cup 2027.
How Has Rohit Sharma Performed In IPL 2026?
In total, Rohit Sharma has made 283 runs in nine innings in the last IPL edition, striking at 157.22. He played two exceptional knocks in between injury setbacks, one against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a fixture in which he made 78 off just 38 balls in MI’s IPL 2026 opener.
The other one was against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he made 84 off only 44 deliveries.
However, he was not at his usual best in a consistent manner, which played its part in Mumbai Indians’ terrible IPL 2026 campaign. They finished ninth on the points table, with only four wins in 14 matches.
