Gujarat Titans (GT) will lock horns with the high-flying Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the penultimate match before the IPL 2026 final. The Qualifier 2 between Shubman Gill-led GT and Riyan Parag-led RR on May 29 will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur.

For the unversed, the high-octane GT vs RR match will decide the second team to qualify for the IPL 2026 final, the championship match against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 31 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

Rajat Patidar-led RCB have already reached the final after beating the Titans by a whopping 92 runs in Qualifier 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the Royals got the better of the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in New Chandigarh in the Eliminator to make it to Qualifier 2.

When New Chandigarh lights up to host the second-to-last match in the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League, two teams with a lot of similarities yet poles apart in their playing style will come face to face for the ticket to the final.

RR enter the clash having defeated a strong Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator 1 on Wednesday. Thanks to yet another remarkable innings, 97 off just 27, by the boss baby, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Rajasthan paved their way into the penultimate clash.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans would need to gather their thoughts and refreshed confidence after a disappointing 92-run loss at the hands of RCB in the Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.

Who will reach IPL 2026 final if GT vs RR Qualifier 2 gets washed out?

It is worth noting that New Chandigarh, at the time of writing, was experiencing dry conditions, but there is a high risk of sudden showers. According to the BBC weather, the Mullanpur stadium could see a 40% chance of heavy rain during the 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM window.

Considering the gravity of the match, fans are curious and wondering who will qualify for the final clash against RCB if the rain plays the spoilsport.

With the final on Sunday and a day between, is there a reserve day? Has the IPL Governing Council deliberately kept a rest day between the two clashes? Read ahead to find answers to all these queries.

Barring the final, the playoff matches in the IPL, including the Qualifier 2, have no reserve day. However, if rain or bad weather halts the game, match officials can use 120 extra minutes to wrap up the fixture.

Moreover, if no result is possible on the night, the higher-ranked team in the IPL 2026 points table will secure a spot in the final. In the current scenario, Gujarat Titans will progress to the title clash vs RCB due to their better finish in the table compared to the Royals.

Notably, Shubman Gill’s men secured the second position on the points table, while Riyan Parag and Co. qualified as the fourth team.
