The Indian team could soon see another major change in its coaching setup. After suffering back-to-back T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reviewing the current team management.

While there has been a lot of speculation over possible changes, the latest reports have finally revealed which coach is likely to leave Team India.

T Dilip Likely to Leave Team India

According to a recent revelation by India Today journalist Nikhil Naz, India’s fielding coach T Dilip is expected to part ways with the national team once his contract comes to an end.

Notably, his possible exit is not believed to be a sudden decision after the recent defeats. Instead, reports claim that discussions about his future have been going on for several months.

T Dilip has been an important member of the Indian coaching staff since joining the team in 2021. Notably, he continued in the role after his contract was renewed in 2025. However, with his current deal nearing its end, he is now expected to move on.

T Dilip In Talks With KKR

Nikhil Naz further suggested that T Dilip is currently in talks with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise. Notably, current Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, was also associated with KKR before joining the Indian team.

Abhishek Nayar had also joined the Indian team from KKR. Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel have both been ex-KKR players. Hence, the Kolkata-based franchise has closely been linked to the Indian support staff ever since Gambhir took over as Head Coach.

Gautam Gambhir’s Coaching Staff Might See Changes

Gautam Gambhir took charge as India’s head coach in July 2024 during the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Since then, the coaching group has been under pressure following inconsistent performances in different formats.

If T Dilip leaves, it will be one of the first major changes in Gambhir’s coaching staff. Reports also suggest that the BCCI may continue reviewing the entire support staff as part of its long-term planning.

Why Is Team India Going Through Changes?

The Indian team’s recent struggles have increased pressure on both the coaching staff and selectors.

Reports indicate that the team’s internal environment has been tense since the home Test series loss to South Africa. Differences between the selectors and coaching staff have also reportedly added to the challenges.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the board will review the team’s recent performances, although he stated that no other matters are currently being discussed officially.

Even so, many believe that more changes could happen before India’s next major Test assignment against Sri Lanka.

T Dilip’s IPL Coaching Experience

For the unversed, T Dilip is no stranger to the Indian Premier League. Before joining Team India, he worked as the assistant fielding coach for the Deccan Chargers from 2009 to 2011. His experience in franchise cricket has earned him a strong reputation as a fielding specialist.

If he joins KKR, he is expected to reunite with Abhishek Nayar, who has been appointed as KKR’s head coach ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The two have previously worked together in the Indian team setup.

While the BCCI has not officially announced any coaching changes, all signs point towards T Dilip leaving Team India after his contract expires.
