India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan achieved a significant milestone despite enduring another disappointing outing with the bat in 4th T20I against England in Bristol on Thursday (July 9).

Although the left-hander failed to make an impact in the all-important encounter, he joined Indian legend Virat Kohli in an elite T20 record.

After winning the toss, India elected to bat first, hoping to post a competitive total. However, the visitors suffered an early setback when young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 15(10)

Soon after, Kishan walked in with the responsibility of rebuilding the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma. However, his stay at the crease lasted only a few deliveries.

Notably, England pacer Josh Tongue produced a superb delivery to dismiss Kishan, who scored 4 runs off 6 balls. Despite his failure with the bat, Kishan had a memorable moment as he completed 7000 runs in T20 cricket.

With the landmark, he became the third-fastest Indian batter to reach the milestone in terms of innings, joining Virat Kohli and KL Rahul on the elite list.

  • KL Rahul – 197 innings
  • Virat Kohli – 212 innings
  • Ishan Kishan – 240 innings*

Josh Tongue removes Ishan Kishan with extra bounce

Talking about Ishan Kishan's dismissal, Tongue bowled a hard-length delivery angled across the left-hander and extracted extra bounce from the Bristol surface. Kishan attempted to play an aggressive pull shot but failed to get on top of the bounce.

As a result, the ball went high in the air, and Sam Curran had plenty of time to settle underneath it at short third man before completing a comfortable catch.

Ishan Kishan continues to struggle on UK Tour

Notably, Kishan's performances on the UK tour have been far from convincing. During the preceding T20I series against Ireland, he managed just 13 runs across 2 innings at a strike rate of 81.25. India also suffered a historic defeat, losing a T20I series to Ireland for the first time.

The move to England was expected to provide Kishan with a fresh start. However, barring a fighting knock of 49 in the second T20I, the left-hander has struggled for consistency.

Across 4 outings in the England series, he has scored just 66 runs at a strike rate of 115.79, numbers that remain well below his usual standards.

Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma Lead India's Recovery

Meanwhile, India's innings was rescued by Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma after the early dismissals of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma, who also departed after scoring 16.

Iyer played a composed and responsible knock to bring up his half-century, while Tilak complemented him with a steady partnership that helped India recover from a difficult position.  At the time of writing, India were 150/5 after 18 overs, with Iyer still at the crease and the visitors looking to finish strongly in the fourth T20I.
