Team India suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat against England in Bristol in the fourth T20I to lose the five-match series. Under the leadership of newly-appointed captain Shreyas Iyer, the result marked India’s second successive series defeat on the tour, coming after the loss to Ireland that had already ended the team’s three-year unbeaten bilateral series streak.

Shresta Iyer, sister of Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, has indirectly criticized the national team by ‘liking’ a controversial social media post on Instagram.
The post in contention was made earlier this week after Team India succumbed to a shambolic nine-wicket defeat in Bristol. The context of the post was quite critical of the Indian cricket team, all while defending new captain Shreyas Iyer despite his leadership downfall off late. The post also referred to Indian players as 'snakes'.

Several fans spotted a ‘like’ from Shresta, with many perceiving that the cricketer’s sister somehow agrees to the criticism against Team India. Now whether the criticism was valid or unjustified is a matter of personal opinion, but the interaction has nevertheless sparked debate among fans on social media.

Notably, this was not the first instance where Shresta Iyer landed in trouble among Indian cricket fans. Back during the earlier stages of the IPL 2026 season in India, she uploaded a rather harmless Instagram reel where she jokingly trolled the KKR franchise for ‘escaping’ with a No Result against a hitherto unbeaten Punjab Kings side.
Shresta’s remarks, however, sparked much backlash from KKR fans, with several of them even sending her messages of abuse as per her own claims.
How has Shreyas Iyer fared as India captain so far
Shreyas Iyer was named Team India captain as a replacement of an ousted Suryakumar Yadav. Despite leading a team that features several members of India’s 2026 T20 World Cup winning squad, Iyer is yet to notch up a single win as national captain in his five completed attempts so far.
Under his leadership, the ‘Men in Blue’ suffered a shambolic 0-2 series defeat in Ireland last month. After the opening washout at Chester-le-Street, Iyer’s Team India has now coped three humiliating losses in a row against hosts England.
Shreyas Iyer to lead India in dead-rubber fifth T20I
The 31-year-old will now lead Team Inda in its dead-rubber fifth T20I against England. The match will be hosted by the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday, July 11 and the action will commence from 7:00 PM IST onwards.
Ahead of the final T20I of the tour, captain Iyer will surely be feeling the heat, as another defeat would ensure his second successive series whitewash in his first two stints as Indian skipper no less.
