On Wednesday, India dealt a heavy blow as their star all-rounder Hardik Pandya dealt a fresh blow and was ruled out of the upcoming ODIs against Afghanistan. The MI captain was already nursing a back injury, following which he suffered a new injury at the CoE.
For the unversed, Pandya checked in at BCCI’s CoE for a back injury and also recovered in time, bowling 10 overs in the training as well. Reports mentioned that the all-rounder got a clearance from the medical team, but sustained an injury after that.

What Is a Quadricep Injury Suffered by Hardik Pandya?
A quadricep strain (pulled quad) is an overstretched or torn muscle in the front of your thigh. It typically feels like sudden, sharp pain in the thigh, muscle weakness, or a tight, aching soreness.
Symptoms at the Time of Injury
* Grade 1 (Mild): Feels like a dull ache or mild tightness in the front of the thigh.

* Grade 2 (Moderate): A sharp, immediate grab or pulling sensation. It usually causes sudden weakness in the leg, making it painful to walk, bend, or straighten the knee.
* Grade 3 (Severe): Often begins with a distinct "popping" or "snapping" sound. It results in severe pain and an immediate inability to bear weight or use the leg.
At present, the BCCI has not revealed the extent of the injury and the grade.
What Is The Recovery Period From Quadricep Injury ?
Quadriceps strain recovery time typically ranges from 1 to 2 weeks for mild strains and up to 3 to 6 months for severe tears. The exact healing timeline depends on the severity of the muscle tear.
- Grade 1 (Mild): 1 to 2 weeks. Only a few muscle fibers are overstretched or torn.
- Grade 2 (Moderate): 4 to 6 weeks. A significant number of muscle fibers are partially torn. Expect pain, swelling, and reduced range of motion.
- Grade 3 (Severe): 3 to 6 months. The muscle or tendon is completely or nearly completely ruptured. This may require surgery and extensive physical therapy.
In Hardik Pandya's case, surgery seems unlikely, which means that the all-rounder might return to action in a month's time.
