On Thursday, India A locked horns against Afghanistan A at the Dambulla Stadium in Nations A Tri-Series in Sri Lanka. The Afghans won the toss and opted to field first. The decision turned out to be a nightmare because Vaibhav Sooryavanshi went all guns blazing in the powerplay.
Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become a household name after his IPL 2026 heroics. His growing fan base resulted in the tri-series being broadcast in India. Several fans tuned in to watch the 15-year-old bat, but their attention was drawn to a different matter in the match.
India A Players Playing Without Jersey Names
Interestingly, the India A stars had no names on the backs of their jerseys. The fans were perplexed and curious because the same happened in India A’s last fixture against Sri Lanka.

A player gets their jersey number when they make a senior debut, and in the India A team, there are several players yet to make their India debut. Hence, they don’t have any official number, which is why the BCCI don’t promote India A players donning jersey name.
Team India Too Didn't Don Proper Jersey During T20 World Cup 2026 Practise Games
Notably, it is not the first time that the BCCI has followed this practice. The Men in Blue have been following this tradition for a long time. Even if we see the T20 World Cup 2026, then India players didn't had their names on the back of their jerseys during T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up matches.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side played a solitary warm-up match against South Africa before the start of T20 World Cup 2026. Since, that too was an unofficial match, there were no names on the back of players jerseys.
Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, Afghanistan have made a slight comeback as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has returned to the pavillion after scoring a quickfire 44. Further, Priyansh Arya too departed cheaply.
India A are 102/2 after 12 overs and still have a chance to put huge total on the board and get off to a perfect start in this tri-series with two wins in a row after Sri Lanka.
