What began as visible tension and animated exchanges between LSG captain Rishabh Pant and owner Sanjiv Goenka after team’s opening setback this IPL 2026 season has now given way to a far more heartening narrative. On Sunday, April 5, the two leading LSG personalities were spotted smiling and hugging each other as they celebrated their team’s welcome win over SRH.

Captain Pant himself rose to the occasion, as his timely half-century anchored the LSG franchise past the hosts with a ball to spare at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Sanjiv Goenka and Rishabh Pant re-unite, put rift rumours to rest

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, known for attending his team’s IPL matches, visited the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for the match against hosts SRH on Sunday, April 5. Shortly after LSG notched up the winning runs in a thrilling last-over finish, Goenka entered the ground and congratulated captain Rishabh Pant for his match-winning knock.

Both Goenka and Pant even exchanged a laugh and hugged each other warmly on the field, a gesture that spoke volumes about mended equations and a renewed sense of camaraderie within the LSG camp.

It is worth noting that both, Sanjiv Goenka and Rishabh Pant were spotted being engaged in an animated interaction with each other after LSG’s opening defeat of the IPL 2026 season to Delhi Capitals. The LSG owner was even spotted seemingly scolding the captain and India’s blistering wicketkeeper-batter, thus re-igniting his previous run-in with ex-skipper KL Rahul.

Sanjiv Goenka gets emotional after LSG win

Sanjiv Goenka, watching the proceedings from the stands, was even spotted crying at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium shortly after the LSG franchise notched up the winning runs in the final over.

The Indian businessman, who holds a reputation for occasionally meddling in team affairs, appeared visibly overwhelmed by the result, with the victory seemingly carrying far greater emotional weight given the backdrop of recent tensions and scrutiny.

SRH vs LSG: As it happened

Winning the toss and opting to field first, Rishabh Pant’s pace trump card Mohammed Shami struck early with the huge wickets of both SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. The legendary Indian paceman ended up conceding just nine runs off his four overs to keep SRH down for a major part of the innings.

The hosts still managed to aggregate 156-9 in 20 overs courtesy of half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Chasing 157, opener Aiden Markram got LSG off to a flier with a sublime 45-run knock from just 27 balls. Captain Rishabh Pant at number three compiled 68* runs from 50 balls with nine elegant boundaries, including one to notch up the winning runs in 19.5 overs.

The outcome marked LSG’s first win of the IPL 2026 season after losing their opening match to Delhi Capitals earlier this month by six wickets.

The LSG will now face KKR in match number 15 of the tournament on Thursday, April 9 next week.
