Mohammed Shami was highlighted as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are clashing in the 10th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad, on April 5, 2026, in a day game.
LSG have begun their Indian Premier League 2026 tournament with a loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) at home in Lucknow, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won one game and lost one out of the two matches they’ve played so far.
Mohammed Shami routs Sunrisers Hyderabad's top order
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first on a very good pitch in Hyderabad. SRH made two changes as Liam Livingstone and Harshal Patel were included in the XI, while LSG made one change with M Siddharth coming in for Anrich Nortje.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Mohammed Shami was given the new ball by the LSG captain.
Mohammed Shami gave LSG a huge boost as he dismissed Abhishek Sharma for a duck on the final ball of the first over. Abhishek Sharma drove at a delivery that swung outside the off-stump, and M. Siddarth took a good catch diving forward at short third man.
Then on the first ball of his next over, Shami made LSG’s day as he dismissed Travis Head for 7 runs. He bowled a slower delivery just short of length and had Head playing a false shot, and Aiden Markram took an easy catch at mid-off. This left LSG 8/2 in 2.1 overs.
Shami was bowled out by Rishabh Pant, looking for more wickets as the veteran pacer finished with 9/2 in his 4 overs.

Shami rubbishes rumors of retirement
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has stated that he is not considering retiring from cricket at this time, citing the tendency for such ideas to demotivate a person. Shami, who hasn't played for India in over a year, made it clear that he won't quit the sport unless he gets bored and exhausted while participating.
BCCI selectors have not included him in their plans for the Indian team despite Shami performing well for Bengal in domestic cricket. Shami took 67 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy during the 2025-26 season.
"When I get tired, I will call it a day. But I am not even thinking of retirement right now because such thoughts pull you down. If this thought crosses your mind, it means you are already tired. And if you are tired, it means you are bored. And I have said this earlier, too. I will leave cricket the day I wake up and decide to get bored. So yeah, the day I feel lazy or get bored, I will leave," Shami said on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast.
After taking just six wickets in nine games the previous season, Shami is now playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026.
