Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals blazed past the Punjab Kings on the IPL 2026 points table. Sameer Rizvi fired his second successive fifty-plus score of the season. In other news, Dewald Brevis will likely be making his return for CSK next week.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, April 4.

Sameer Rizvi, Ravi Bishnoi climb to the top; Capitals and Royals unbeaten

Delhi Capitals uncapped star Sameer Rizvi fired a match-winning 51-ball 90 against Mumbai Indians to register his second fifty-plus score of the IPL 2026 season. The innings also made him the new ‘Orange Cap’ holder with 160 runs in two matches at an average of 160. On the Purple Cap front, Rajasthan Royals spinner Ravi Bishnoi bagged match-winning figures of 4-41 against the Titans to go at the top of the season’s wicket-taking charts with five scalps.

Both Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals also took the number one and number two spots respectively on the points table after the April 4 double-header, with Punjab Kings slipping to number three on the 10-team standings.

Pat Cummins leaves SRH from IPL 2026

Pat Cummins has left the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad to fly back to Australia, just a week into the launch of the IPL 2026 season. Yet to attain full recovery from his back injury, the legendary Australian fast bowler is scheduled to take a final scan. If declared fit by Cricket Australia (CA), Cummins will be expected to rejoin the SRH squad in India on April 17 later this month.

BCCI announce intra-CoE tournament to identify red-ball talents

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a new tournament aimed to identify the next generation of India’s red-ball stars. Set to be played shortly after the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season, the tournament will be organized by the VVS Laxman-led BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

As many as 64 players will feature in the series of four-day red ball games, including the likes of IPL superstars Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre.

Dewald Brevis to return for CSK vs Delhi Capitals

Dewald Brevis is set to make his return for the CSK franchise for their next week’s IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals. Earlier, the hard-hitting South African batter was ruled out of the initial phase of the tournament owing to his side strain.

However, as per a RevSportz report, the 22-year-old is expected to attain full recovery next week after CSK’s match against RCB in Bengaluru. The match against Delhi Capitals will be played on April 11 in Chennai.

India likely to tour Bangladesh in August

Team India’s tour of Bangladesh is on track to go ahead as schedule, as reported by journalist Abhishek Tripathi. Originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh last year, the tour was called off the BCCI. Moreover, the cricketing relations between the two nations have taken a major hit, especially after the entire T20 World Cup 2026 late pullout from the BCB.

Amidst worsening cricketing and political ties, India might tour Bangladesh to play a series of three ODIs and three T20Is in August.
