Rinku Singh almost steals Sanju Samson's bat [Source: X]
India batter Rinku Singh and his antics were on full display on Match 1 at the Eden Gardens, even though he was off the field. Benched for the India vs West Indies Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026, Rinku, who recently lost his father to cancer, was seen almost pulling off a heist he is well known for.
The adorably known âbat thiefâ of the Blue camp, as well as the Kolkata Knight Riders troop, Rinku Singh, almost nonchalantly took Sanju Samsonâs bat mid-match in a smooth heist-like manoeuvre.
The âBat Thiefâ Rinku Singh And His Heists
Rinku has been in the headlines during the Indian Premier League because of his hilarious antics, where he begs to have bats of other senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In several instances, he was seen receiving bats from Suryakumar Yadav and MS Dhoni as well.
Speaking of his humorous and hilarious incidents, Rinku was seen asking Virat Kohli twice for his bat during IPL 2024. A viral video even showed Kohli reprimanding Rinku for breaking a bat that he had gifted him earlier.
Later, in IPL 2025, Rinku was spotted asking Rohit Sharma for a bat after a match against the Mumbai Indians, which also led to some friendly teasing involving Tilak Varma. Back in July 2024, Rinku was again seen asking for a bat in an Instagram story while replying to Surya.
The prolific KKR batter later revealed that he had also taken a bat from CSK legend MS Dhoni during the 2024 season. Now, the infamous âbat thiefâ struck again and almost got hold of Samson's bat.

Rinku Almost Steals Sanju Samsonâs Bat Mid-Match
During the drink breaks in Indiaâs chase against West Indies at the Eden Gardens, Rinku Singh, who was in the dugout, occasionally came out to serve drinks while wearing a bib. Likely so, he brought water and an energy drink for Sanju Samson alongside Kuldeep Yadav during a break.
After Samson refreshed and hydrated himself, he placed the water bottle back on the tray while Rinku was holding his bat. Rinku, with the bat tucked under his right arm, casually began to walk off the field after Samson almost returned to the crease.

However, Samson suddenly realized that he had forgotten his bat and quickly jogged back towards Rinku to retrieve it. Rinku, seemingly unsurprised by Samson's approach, handed the bat back with a wide smile on his face.
Why Rinku Singh Is Off The Grid In Recent Times?
Singh, an otherwise prolific middle-order batter and energetic fielder who had a decent T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, was benched for the second and third Super 8 clashes after he lost his father, Khanchand Singh, on February 27.
Rinku, who had been a regular member of the squad, sat out as the team extended condolences over his fatherâs passing. Naturally, he was not in the right mental state to play, and that is perhaps why he sat out. Even though he lost his father, he returned to the squad to be present and support his team from the dugout in Kolkata.
Although Rinku Singh is now with the team, it is still unclear whether he will feature again in this tournament, especially with Sanju Samsonâs comeback opening up a new dimension for India in addressing their top-order collapses.
India Ready For Wankhede Battle Against The English
The Men in Blue, meanwhile, have progressed to the semi-finals, where they will face England in Semi-final 2 at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium on March 5, 2026.
Defeating West Indies by five wickets, India chased down 196 in 19.2 overs, thanks to Sanju Samsonâs unbeaten 97 off 50 balls. Although Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav disappointed, late contributions from Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube helped the hosts cross the line and avoid a major setback at Eden Gardens.
