The IPL 2026 match between the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals had so much at stake, as the Royals had to beat the hosts to reach the playoffs. The environment was tense as both sides were battling in a see-saw contest, but even in such a situation, the fans got to witness a light-hearted moment between Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur.
How the Rajasthan Royals innings panned out
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and put the Rajasthan Royals side into bat. The decision backfired initially as Yashasvi Jaiswal started on an aggressive note and took down the Mumbai bowling lineup with ease.
However, the hosts put the brakes on the scoring rate by dismissing Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryanavshi in quick succession. Dhruv Jurel started the repair work before he, too, was sent back for a well-compiled 38.

The side found an unlikely hero with the bat as Jofra Archer was promoted in the batting order, and the bowler didn’t disappoint as he smacked a brilliant 32 off 15, and finishing touches from Ravindra Jadeja helped the team score 205/8.
While the match was tense, Jadeja, and Shardul reminded everyone that one can actually have a light-hearted moment on a cricket field.

Shardul was tasked with the responsibility of delivering the last over, and on the fourth ball of the RR innings, Shardul managed to dismiss RR batter, Ravindra Jadeja.

While the entire MI side celebrated, the siren rang, and the replays suggested that Shardul had overstepped, and it was called a no-ball. While everyone expected Shardul to be angry, he took it in a sporting manner, as Jadeja playfully teased him with a pump fist while saying, “Come on.”
This wasn’t the end of the banter as Jadeja smacked him for two boundaries in a row, and once again mocked Shardul while going back to the dugout.
Shardul made a costly error of delivering a no-ball, and he was punished by the RR batter with successive boundaries.
Jadeja celebrates as playoff place on the line for RR
When playing at the Wankhede Stadium, every run you score in the first innings becomes crucial, and thus, when Jadeja smacked Shardul for two consecutive boundaries after his no-ball error, the RR batter knew the importance of those runs.
Heading into the break, RR had a psychological edge as the side had posted a total in excess of 200 after struggling for the majority of the first innings.
Moreover, the IPL 2026 playoff place is also on the line for the Royals, who need to beat the hosts to reach the knockouts. RR are currently fifth, with 14 points in their bag. If they beat Mumbai, the team would reach 16 points and would officially secure a playoff place.
