The Mumbai Indians had a horrendous IPL 2026 season, as the side that was touted to win the championship crashed out of the IPL 2026 playoffs race two weeks before the league stage ended. On paper, the MI team had all the tools to succeed in IPL 2026, but the team crumbled under pressure and failed to deliver the goods.

Being Mumbai's best player, the team retained him for a whopping 18 crores. It is the same amount he received in the last IPL season (2025). In IPL 2026, Bumrah participated in 13 matches, and his per match fee was around 9,750,000.
His IPL salary for the entire tournament was 180,000,000. Thus, the total amount Bumrah would get to play in IPL 2026 is 189,750,000.
How Jasprit Bumrah performed in IPL 2026
With Jasprit Bumrah, there is a fear actor associated with him, and often the batters crumble in front of him. However, the IPL 2026 has witnessed a different trend, as the Mumbai pacer has been taken to the cleaners, and from their biggest match-winner, he has become a liability.
In 13 IPL matches, Bumrah has only scalped 4 wickets, with an average of 102.50, and an economy rate of 8.37, which is actually bad, considering his lofty standards across formats.
This has affected the Mumbai Indians as the team failed to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs, and were knocked out.

Yes, Bumrah has a high salary, and his IPL 2026 performance couldn’t justify his price tag, but one has to be reminded that for the first time since his IPL debut, Bumrah has gone through such a dry patch.
Bumrah has played a key role in Mumbai Indians’ five IPL championships, and he has been their biggest match-winner. The pacer shouldn’t be judged on the basis of one failed season, and thus, the management should trust him by retaining the player ahead of the IPL 2027 campaign.
