The Rajasthan Royals ended their losing streak at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday night as they defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by 5 wickets, chasing down 221 runs in 19.1 overs.

Having won only one of their last five matches, it was a crucial game for the Royals, considering the close race for the last playoff spot. Additionally, they were missing captain Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja through niggles.

In Parag's absence, Yashasvi Jaiswal won the toss and put LSG to bat first, and RR were taken by a storm with a 109-run opening stand in 8.2 overs. Thanks to Mitchell Marsh's 96 off 57 and Josh Inglis' 60 off 29, LSG put on 220/5 in 20 overs. Yash Raj Punja was RR's best bowler with 2/35 (4).

Captain Jaiswal started the run-chase with a brisk 43 off 23 with 8 fours and a six before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took over and scored a blistering 93(38) with 7 fours and 10 sixes to put the team in a winning position. A composed 29*(17) partnership between Dhruv Jurel and Donovan Ferreira completed RR's chase, as they take a step closer to the playoffs.

How can Rajasthan Royals qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs?

The Jaipur-based franchise started their new era under Riyan Parag's captaincy in IPL 2026 and were cruising towards the playoffs in the first half of the season. However, winning only one out of five games ahead of the LSG clash raised concerns over their qualification.

Nonetheless, despite captain Riyan Parag being out with a hamstring niggle, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and Dhruv Jurel made sure that they crossed the finish line and chased 221 on the night.

With this crucial win, they find themselves back in the top-4, with 14 points in 13 matches played. Now, they have one match remaining, and a win on the weekend would secure the number 4 spot for them. They wouldn't need to depend on others to do them any favours.

Additionally, KKR, CSK and PBKS still have an outside chance to finish 4th, in case of a RR slip up on the final match day, but they all will play before RR. In case these teams lose their respective matches, they will automatically improve RR's chances for a top-4 finish.
