Virat Kohli headed into the IPL 2026 season on the back of stellar form, and the RCB great lived up to the hype as he broke several records and etched his name in the history books with his brilliant T20 batting. Known as Mr Consistent in the IPL, Kohli has arguably been RCB’s best batter in the ongoing season.
The RCB opener has piled on truckloads of runs in IPL 2026, but he had a rare failure in the clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, despite the failure, Kohli scripted history and attained yet another record.
Kohli's rare failure vs SRH
SRH needed to beat RCB by 87 runs to leapfrog them in the points tally, and the Orange Army batters punished the RCB bowlers after electing to bat first.
On a flat surface, the likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen tormented the RCB attack and slammed a mammoth 255/4. In reply, RCB’s new opener, Venkatesh Iyer went all guns blazing as he smacked 44 off 19 balls, while his partner, Kohli, failed to deliver the goods and scored just 15.
Kohli couldn’t do much for RCB in the run-chase, but he was involved in a crucial fifty-run opening stand alongside Venkatesh.
Kohli scripts history, surpasses English great in T20 feat
Kohli, alongside Venkatesh, added 60 runs for the first wicket, and the Indian great created history as he became the player involved in the most 50-plus stands in Men’s T20s, surpassing Alex Hales.

Kohli misses out on huge IPL landmark
Kohli attained one major milestone, but also misses out on an opportunity to become the gratest IPL batter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Virat Kohli's stellar IPL 2026 in numbers
Kohli has brought an aggressive intent along with him for the IPL 2026 season, and the franchise has benefited from it. With Phil Salt injured for the majority of the campaign, the RCB opener has taken the mantle to play aggressively.
In this campaign, RCB have qualified for the IPL playoffs, and Kohli deserves credit as the batter has accumulated 542 runs in 13 matches, with a healthy strike rate of 164. Interestingly, he also has a century to his name, a feat that he achieved against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a tricky run-chase.
While Kohli has been consistent with his performances, the player witnessed a rare slump in the match against SRH on Friday.
