Tempers ran high on Day 4 of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 final between Punjab Kings and Karnataka bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak and Jammu and Kashmir opener Qamran Iqbal. As the visitors looked to pile onto their huge first innings lead, Vyshak was seen losing his cool on the batter in the midst of a barrage of bouncers to try and drag Karnataka back in the match.
However, as has been the case throughout the final, the Jammu and Kashmir batter ended up having the last laugh in the collision with the with Vyshak, leaving the latter embarrassed.

The incident took place in the final session of Day 4 as Vyshak Vijaykumar was trying to pull his team back in the contest after they had already conceded a lead of close to 450 runs. Qamran Iqbal, who looked poised at the crease to end the day without losing his wicket, was batting at 74*(138) at the 48.5 over mark.
Vyshak bowled a bouncer, and the batter ducked it, awkwardly getting away from the line of the ball. In a desperate search for a wicket, the pacer looked visibly frustrated as he exchanged some words with Iqbal, who tried to avoid interaction.
On the very next ball, Vyshak lost his line and let Iqbal open up his arms to slash him for a six over the deep backward point on a ball directed at the middle and leg stump. The duo again looked animated, and the umpires had to intervene to get the situation under control.
War of words makes headlines in Ranji Trophy Final
Notably, the incident between Iqbal and Vyshak is not the first time the two have exchanged words in the ongoing final. The Jammu and Kashmir captain was also in the midst of a similar situation on Day 2 of the match as things escalated between him and KV Aneesh.
Following some sledging from Aneesh, Dogra took it too far and went on to recreate the infamous Zinedine Zidane headbutt with the fielder. He later apologised and admitted that it happened in the heat of the moment; however, was fined 50% of his match fee by the match referee.
Jammu and Kashmir on the cusp of history vs Karnataka
The Dogra and Auqib Nabi-led side, Jammu and Kashmir, are playing their first Ranji Trophy final, having made their FC debut back in 1960. Facing the second-most successful team in the tournament's history away from home, they won the toss and batted for almost 3 days and scored 584 runs in the first innings.
Following the century from Shubham Pundir and the fifties for Yawer Hassan, Dogra, Abdul Samad, Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Sahil Lotra, Auqib Nabi took matters into his own hands. Courtesy of a 5/54 in the big match, they bowled Karnataka out for 293 runs, and Mayank Agarwalâs gritty 160 went in vain, as they gained a lead of 283 runs.
With a day of play left, Jammu and Kashmir are 186/4 and lead by 477 runs. If nothing changes drastically, they are well set to lift their first-ever Ranji Trophy final in their maiden final. Iqbal is unbeaten on 94 off 160, while Vyshak has picked a solitary wicket and conceded 30 runs in 10 overs bowled.
