Pakistan will face co-hosts Sri Lanka in their final Super 8 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Stadium on February 28 at 7 PM (IST).

Having suffered defeats at the hands of England and New Zealand in the last two matches, the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka has already been knocked out of the competition. They have particularly struggled to capitalise on the momentum with the ball and failed to chase totals in the Super 8s, still waiting for their first points after the group stages.

On the other hand, Pakistan dropped a point due to rain against the Kiwis, followed by a Harry Brook masterclass in their last match, nearly knocking them out. They are dependent on the result of the England vs New Zealand fixture to stay alive and have an outside chance at the final four spot.

PAK vs SL player battles

Sahibzada Farhan vs Maheesh Theekshana

The Pakistan opening batter, Sahibzada Farhan, has been the linchpin of their batting line-up throughout the competition as he leads the run-scoring charts. If England defeats New Zealand, he will try to launch an early attack against Sri Lanka to keep the net run rate in check.

Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who has picked 4 wickets in the powerplay of the tournament at an economy rate of just 7.25, will be crucial for the Lankans to pick early wickets and help them end the home tournament on a high. His variations, especially the stock ball and leg spin, will play a role against Farhan.

Pathum Nissanka vs Shaheen Afridi

Similar to what Farhan has done for Pakistan, Nissanka has done for Sri Lanka in the ongoing competition and scored 208 runs at a strike rate of 152.94. If he gets going, he bats deep and takes the team to a formidable total.

He will be up against Shaheen Afridi, who is a great new ball operator, which was evident against England, with quick wickets of Phil Salt, Jos Buttler and Jacob Betthell in his effort of 4/30. The winner of this powerplay battle will put their team in front in the clash.

Babar Azam vs Dunith Wellalage

The most experienced Pakistan batter, Babar Azam, is yet to make any match-winning contribution in the tournament so far and would be raring to end the tournament on a positive note. His middle-overs struggles against spin are well documented, where the match-up like Wellalage’s left-arm orthodox will be important for Sri Lanka.

PAK vs SL toss prediction

So far in the tournament, five of the six matches played at the R Premadasa Stadium have been won by teams batting first. The dimensions of the ground do not allow first innings scores in excess of 180-185, and the batters have to rely on running between the wickets.

Additionally, bowling is the strength of both teams, and hence, they will look to win the toss and bat first in the upcoming encounter.

PAK vs SL match winner prediction: Who will win Match 50?

Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan haven't been at their best in the Super 8 stage, despite asserting dominance in the group stages of the competition. Their overall forms have been similar, and the recent head-to-head records also do not separate the two sides.

It is expected to be a close battle, but looking at the strengths of both squads, Pakistan hold an edge over Sri Lanka for the match. The co-hosts could end the Super 8 without a win under their belt.
