Sydney Sixers once again met Perth Scorchers in a Big Bash League final on Sunday, January 25, at Ninja Stadium in Perth, in what was the sixth finale face-off between the teams and the entertainment quotient remained as good as ever.

All-rounder Jack Edwards was in the thick of things when his team trailed in the final and the player pulled off a moment of magic to get rid of the dangerous Finn Allen to give fans a slight hope of a win and a potential fourth BBL title.

Having restricted the Sixers for a chasabale first innings score of 132 at home in the big match, the Scorchers' caravan got off to a flier with a big opening stand between the in-form Finn Allen and Mitchell Marsh, as the duo added 80 runs in just 8.2 overs before the former was dismissed.

The incident happened at the 8.2 over mark when Mitchell Starc bowled a full delivery outside the off stump and Allen, batting on 36*(21) looked to reach out and drive it through the covers. However, the tall man Edwards took off like a bird and grabbed a one-handed catch to help his team out with a breakthrough.

Allen was dismissed after running away with the game with four fours and a six to his name, as he ended the season as the leading run scorer with 466 runs at a strike rate of 466.

Breakthrough season for Jack Edwards

The tall and athletic all-rounder, who has been around with the Sixers since 2018/19 had a memorable BBL season this time around after he was given a prominent role in the batting order to finish the matches or innings on a high. His boundary scoring ability was on forefront in his 10 innings, where he got 133 runs with 6 sixes and 13 fours at a strike rate of 168.35.

Similarly, with the ball, he ends the season with 19 wickets, only second to Haris Rauf's 20 as his best season with the ball in 12 innings. He also picked a five-fer at a strike rate of 14.1 in BBL 2025/26.

Thanks to his form, he was also given an Australia ODI call-up against India; however, did not feature in the match. He scored an impressive 88 (78) against India A earlier this year, alongside an 89 (75) and a four-fer on the same tour. This has also earned him an IPL contract, with SRH swooping him for 3 crore after interest from multiple franchises.

Perth Scorchers clinch the sixth BBL title

Despite the valiant effort on the field to dismiss Allen, followed by 3 more quick wickets in the chase, the Perth Scorchers went on to chase down 133 in 17.3 overs, with Josh Inglis' unbeaten 29(26), which included a winning six. Jhye Richardson and David Payne scalped 3 wickets each for them and Mitchell Marsh chipped in with a crucial 44(43).

This was their 9th BBL final appearance and they have now made it 6 wins in 9 finals.
