An outstanding striker of the white ball, Finn Allen, is hailed as a hard-hitting star for New Zealand. Known for his aggressive gameplay, he likes to set up the game early by providing quick starts at the top of the order.

Allen started his professional career playing for Auckland’s U17 team at the age of 14 and soon made it into the U19 side. Impressive domestic performances saw him included in New Zealand’s squad for the 2016 ICC U19 World Cup and also went on to play the next U19 World Cup, two years later.

Allen made headlines in the 2018 U19 World Cup when he smashed a brilliant ton against the West Indies and finished as the leading run-scorer for his team in the tournament.

Allen’s inspirational journey started on the back of his sensational performance in the 2020-21 Super Smash Tournament.

He amassed 512 runs in 11 matches, ending as the leading run-getter of the tournament, helping the Firebirds clinch the title. A day after the final, he got his maiden call-up in the senior squad as a standby player.

Finn Allen T20I Career

Finn Allen made his international debut against Bangladesh in the second T20I match on March 28th, 2021. While he returned for a golden duck on his debut, he showed his class in the 3rd T20I, scoring 29-ball 71. The then 21-year-old opened the batting with Martin Guptill and played one of the most blistering and fearless knocks in the shortest format of the game.

Only a few months later, on 27 July, Allen smashed his first century in T20I cricket against Scotland.

Moving on, in January 2024, Allen scored 137 off 62 balls against Pakistan to surpass Brendon McCullum’s record for New Zealand's highest individual score in men's T20Is, hitting 16 sixes in that innings. With this, Allen also drew level with Afghan Hazratullah Zazai to become the joint record holder for the most sixes scored by one player in an innings.

On top of that, Allen hit 6 sixes in 14 balls from Haris Rauf. Only three other batters have hit six sixes off a bowler in a T20I: Yuvraj Singh off Stuart Broad in 2007, Kieron Pollard off Akila Dananjaya in 2021, and Josh Inglis off Ravi Bishnoi in 2023.

Allen has been a constant name in New Zealand’s squad, being named in consecutive ICC T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026.

Finn Allen ODI Career

After an explosive start to his T20I career, Finn Allen played his maiden ODI on 10 July 2022 against Ireland.

Notably, he is yet to prove his mettle in longer formats of the game.
