Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals are once again scheduled to meet in the SA20 2025/26 final after both teams made it to the final of the competition, set to be played on Sunday, January 25, in the beautiful stadium at Newlands, Cape Town, at 7 pm (IST).
This is the fourth consecutive edition in which the Tristan Stubbs-led SEC have reached this stage of the tournament, making it a record of 100 per cent final appearances since the competition’s inception in 2023. So far, they have won in two editions; however, they fell short in the last season.
On the other hand, Pretoria Capitals are the second-time finalists under the leadership of Keshav Maharaj after Wayne Parnell led them to a final in the inaugural season in 2023. In this season, PC have gotten the better of the SEC in 2/3 matches. As the Sunrisers look to avenge the playoff defeat on Sunday to make it 2-2 in this season, here’s a look at what to expect from the final.

PC vs SEC, SA20 2025/26 final: Player Battles
Quinton de Kock vs Lungi Ngidi
The South African wicketkeeper batter is the leading run-scorer of the season with 372 runs and likes to set the tone of the innings with an early onslaught on the opposition, much like the Qualifier 2, where he went berserk to put Paarl Royals on the backfoot.
As a senior pro of the Pretoria attack, the onus will be on Lungi Ngidi, who has already scalped a hat-trick this season, and a good new ball spell will put his team ahead of the SEC.
Dewald Brevis vs Anrich Nortje
The right-hand batter, who is in good form in the lead-up to the final, having scored 269 runs in 10 innings, including a match-winning 75*(38) in the Qualifier, is the Capitals’ key batter, who needs to be dismissed early in his innings.
Anrich Nortje, who will operate in the same phase as Brevis’ batting, has picked 17 wickets (2nd most) in 10 matches of this season at an economy of 7.26, and will play a crucial role in restricting PC’s star from getting settled on the wicket.
Tristan Stubbs vs Keshav Maharaj
Runs have not flown freely for captain Tristan Stubbs this season, where he has often taken up the role to bat in the second half of the innings, and a similar case was the case in Qualifier 1, where he couldn’t go all guns blazing, which eventually resulted in falling short by a considerable margin at the end.
Similarly, Keshav Maharaj has only picked 11 wickets in 9 matches, but has managed to keep things quiet in the middle overs, conceding at only 6.48 runs per over. As a positive match-up to Stubbs, he can be a handful in the battle of the skippers and instill belief in his team, who are aiming for the first title.

PC vs SEC, SA20 2025/26 Final - Toss prediction
The Newlands pitch has seen both high-scoring and low-scoring matches this season, with the chasing team coming at the top on most occasions. Considering the hot and windy conditions of the venue, the batters are likely to enjoy batting on this deck. Similar to the last three results, where the teams batting second have come on top, which is likely to be repeated on Sunday.
The team winning the toss will fancy bowling first and chase down around 180-190. The SEC have a second innings run rate of 9.66 in 2026, while the Capitals have scored at 9.29 in the chases, winning 100% of the time batting second.

PC vs SEC, Match Winner Prediction: Who will win the SA20 2025/26 final?
Heading into the big final in Cape Town, both teams have been in rich form. SEC finished top of the table comfortably, while PC defeated them convincingly in the Qualifier. There is not much to separate the teams on the basis of their current forms. It is highly likely that the team batting second will clinch the title in a thrilling contest.
However, just based on the experience of being there and done that at this stage and having quality international stars in the lineup, Sunrisers Eastern Cape hold an edge to win their third SA20 trophy.
