Ravichandran Ashwin took a heavy beating on his latest outing in T20s after confirming his retirement from Indian cricket. After playing just a solitary match in the MLC 2026 season earlier this year owing to an injury, the legendary off-spinner returned to franchise circuit in the ETPL 2026 season for the Dublin Guardians franchise.
Bowling his first over of the game against the Glasgow Cosmic at The Hague on Saturday, August 29, Ashwin got belted for 18 runs in a single over by former English opener Jason Roy.
Jason Roy takes Ravichandran Ashwin to the cleaners
Opening the innings alongside captain George Munsey, Jason Roy’s lone man counterattack blazed the Glasgow Cosmic franchise to 44-2 at the end of the powerplay overs.

Right after the powerplay, the well-set batter greeted Dublin Guardians’ senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with two boundaries and a six in the first three balls. Starting off the seventh over of the innings by extracting 14 runs off three deliveries, Roy took a single and finished the over with a double to storm his side to 62-2 in the space of just six balls.
And just like that, Ashwin started off his spell with an expensive and wicketless 18-run over, a rare setback for the veteran spinner who is rather renowned for his ability to deliver tight spells.

Ravichandran Ashwin bounces back like a champion
Ravichandran Ashwin, the champion he is, bounced back in style for the Dublin Guardians franchise after taking a heavy beating from a rampaging Jason Roy.
Despite getting belted all over the park, the legendary off-spinner was asked to continue his spell, and dismissed Moises Henriques for just four off six balls in his following over.
Ashwin even bowled out his quota by the 15th over of the Glasgow Cosmic innings to finish with figures of 1-43. Having started off with an expensive 18-run over, the 39-year-old conceded just 25 runs off his remaining three overs to close off his spell on a strong note.
In spite of Ashwin’s fiery comeback, Jason Roy still ended up top-scoring in the innings with an explosive 37-ball 60 as the Cosmic mounted 183-5 in 20 overs.
Ashwin recovers from injury, returns as player-mentor for Dublin
A couple of months ago, Ravichandran Ashwin was ruled out of the MLC 2026 season in the USA after playing just one match for the San Franciso Unicorns franchise owing to an injury.
Amid his recovery phase, the cricketer was picked up by the Dublin Guardians for the inaugural ETPL season. It is worth noting that the Ireland-based franchise also named the legendary all-rounder as team mentor as well as captain of the side.
With his joining, the 39-year-old also got reunited with India’s former head coach Rahul Dravid, who is currently one of the co-owners of the Dublin Guardians franchise in the ETPL.
