The debate over the best all-format cricketers in the world has become a growing trend in modern cricket. Former cricketers and analysts often compare players across Test, ODI and T20 cricket and pick the names they believe can perform at the highest level in every format.
Recently, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik shared his opinion on the same topic. He picked Shubman Gill, Travis Head and Harry Brook among others. However, one name missing from the discussion was young star player Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

It is important to note that the discussion began after former England captain and cricket analyst Michael Atherton created a Venn diagram while comparing the top 10 players across Test, ODI and T20 cricket on the Sky Sports channel.
The exercise showed that there is some overlap between Test and ODI cricket, but there is very little crossover with T20Is.
When asked to name the best multi-format players in the current game, Dinesh Karthik immediately picked Shubman Gill, Travis Head and Harry Brook.
"If you put me on the spot and ask me, I would say Shubman Gill is there. I would definitely say Travis Head, he is there as well, and you have to say Harry Brook now, that goes without saying."
For the remaining choices, Karthik had to decide between New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and India's Yashasvi Jaiswal. He also pointed out an important factor and said that both Gill and Jaiswal do not currently play T20Is regularly for India.
And the fourth one would be a toss-up if we had to ask for a fourth, between Rachin Ravindra and Yashasvi Jaiswal, even though Yashasvi doesn't play T20 cricket, nor does Shubman Gill play T20 cricket for India," Dinesh Karthik said.
His five names were Shubman Gill, Travis Head, Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rachin Ravindra.

Why These Five Players Stand Out Across Formats?
It is worth noting that Dinesh Karthik's choices are based on the ability of these players to make an impact in more than one format.
Gill has been particularly impressive in ODI cricket and has consistently performed at the top of the order. In this format, the Indian captain has played 67 matches and made 3379 runs at an average of 60.33 and a strike rate of 100.95.
Travis Head, among these five players, has the most Test runs and has shown that his aggressive batting style can work in both red-ball and white-ball cricket. In the longest format of the game, the star Australian player has made 4653 runs in 67 matches at an average of 43.08.
Harry Brook has quickly developed into an important player for England in both Test and ODI cricket. In the Test format, Brook has played 6 matches and made 456 runs at an average of 45.60 and a strike rate of 86.53 in 2026.
In the ODI format, he has featured in 6 matches and made 215 runs at an average of 43.00.
Jaiswal and Ravindra were the closest choices for Karthik, and both the players have also made a strong place for their respective teams.
Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Did Not Make Karthik's List?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's absence is understandable when the criteria are based on established multi-format performances. The 15-year-old has attracted attention because of his explosive batting in T20 cricket and the IPL.
However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is still at the beginning of his career and needs much more experience to enter the list. So far, on the international stage, he has played just 6 T20I matches and 193 runs.
