There were many criticism on North Zone coaching staff and administration when they decided not giving a chance to Sanat Sangwan in their Duleep Trophy quarter-final match against West Zone. Instead, they gave Yash Dhull, India's U-19 World Cup-winning captain, another go to shine.
While Dhull made 9 and 0 against South Zone, Sangwan, who had 828 runs in 14 innings a stunning average of 69 in last season’s Ranji Trophy for Delhi, had to watch his failures from the sidelines.
Sanat Sangwan To Be Included In North Zone's XI For Duleep Trophy Semis
North Zone coaches Ajay Sharma and Sarandeep Singh were particularly criticised for leaving out Sangwan, last edition’s third highest run-getter in Ranji Trophy, from playing XI in Duleep Trophy quarter-final.
However, as reported by PTI, they had no choice but to include Sangwan in Duleep Torphy semi-final playing XI, which will begin on August 30 against South Zone at BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2, Bengaluru.

Nevertheless, Sangwan’s inclusion does not guarantee Dhull’s omission from North Zone playing XI. Despite the fact that he has a niggle in hamstring during training session on Saturday, as revealed by PTI, he might still be there to play Duleep Trophy semi-final.
If that happens, Qamran Iqbal, who had scores of 26 and 16 in the quarter-final, might have to sit out.
Why Yash Dhull Often Faces Criticism?
Despite being one of the most promising young talents around in Indian circuit, Dhull has a tendency to fail with the bat whenever the entire focus is on him.
Even in IPL, Dhull got three opportunities to shine in IPL. Delhi Capitals gave him the chance to deliver during IPL 2023.
There too, Dhull, who was picked for INR 50 lakh by DC, failed miserably, making only 16 runs at a strike rate of 69.56. Since then, he could not get picked by any IPL team’s playing XI.
Dhull was in impressive touch in DPL 2026, averaging 51.25 while tallying 410 runs at an incredible strike rate of 214.66.
However, just when he was asked to perform while the BCCI had a closer look into it, he failed once again.
More Updates On North Zone Squad
In other news, Gurnoor Brar, who was earlier confirmed to play Duleep Trophy semi-final, replaced Sunil Kumar. Sunil had only one wicket across both innings in the previous fixture for North Zone, and therefore, he will make his way to give Gurnnor a place, as revealed by PTI.
Meanwhile, PTI also confirmed that Ayush Badoni had a fever and tonsil related concerns ahead of Duleep Trophy semi-final. However, he is expected to be fit on time, and should be in action in Bengaluru against South Zone.
