In an unexpected twist, Craig Overton was denied a wicket during a County Championship game between Somerset and Glamorgan. While he broke into celebration, the umpire fooled him with a mocking gesture.

The entire drama unfolded during the County Championship Division One game between Somerset and Glamorgan. In Glamorgan’s second innings, Ryan Hadley and Sean Dickson were building a steady partnership.

Umpire’s quirky gesture denies Craig Overton a wicket

Meanwhile, Craig Overton, brother CSK's emerging hero Jamie Overton, nearly produced a breakthrough for Somerset. He bowled a fullish delivery that nipped back and beat Ryan Hadley on the front pad. Somerset immediately went up for a huge appeal.

However, the umpire raised his hand only to adjust his hat and not single out. But Overton thought the hand was raised to uphold his appeal, and hence, he celebrated with a huge roar.

That being said, Overton’s happiness was short-lived as he soon realised that the umpire did not raise his finger but only adjusted his hat and that he was denied a wicket.

But Craig Overton had no choice but to continue to bowl as he clearly appeared disappointed. The entire moment was caught on camera and went viral on social media.

When Rashid Khan was fooled similarly

This isn’t the first time the umpires have fooled the players. Earlier, in a BBL game, Rashid Khan, playing for Adelaide Strikers, made an LBW appeal against Webster.

However, instead of raising a finger, the umpire began rubbing his nose with it, leaving Khan and the Strikers confused.

Adelaide Strikers thought they had the man, but the umpire animatedly explained that he had not raised his finger to adjudge the batter out. He urged Rashid Khan to continue bowling, as his decision was not out.

Glamorgan crosses the line to beat Somerset

Meanwhile, Glamorgan had the last laugh as Ryan Hadley guided them to an easy victory over Somerset in the 24th match of County Championship Division One.

After collapsing to 134/5 earlier in the innings, Glamorgan turned the match around through a gritty partnership between Sean Dickson and Ryan Hadley. Dickson played a crucial knock of 76, while Hadley remained unbeaten on 50 after batting for more than 220 deliveries in a marathon effort.

For Somerset, Craig Overton and Migael Pretorius kept the visitors alive with disciplined spells, sharing seven wickets between them. However, that was not enough to contain the resistance of Hadley and Dickson.

Earlier in the match, Somerset posted 354 in the first innings thanks to a brilliant 86 from Tom Abell before Glamorgan replied with 229 in the second innings.

Somerset then collapsed dramatically for just 157 in the third innings despite another fighting 71 from Abell, leaving Glamorgan a target of 283, which they chased easily.
