On Wednesday, November 4, Babar Azam made a return to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the much-awaited comeback didn’t go as per plans. The right-handed batter, representing Lahore Whites, got out scoring 28 (40).

Babar Azam is coming back to domestic cricket to correct his technique because he had a poor outing in England. However, the right-handed batter was undone by poor umpiring on his return to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Babar Azam Unhappy With Umpiring Standards in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

Babar Azam got out to Afaq Afridi in the 28th over of the match. On the 5th ball of the over, Afridi bowled a nice, good-length delivery that nipped away from Azam.

The right-handed batter looked to play the shot, but the ball moved away to the keeper. There was a huge appeal for an edge, and the umpire was convinced. The on-field official raised his finger, and Babar was unhappy.

Babar gestured to the umpire that he was not happy with the decision and signalled that the ball hit the thigh pad. Nonetheless, there is no DRS in the domestic match, which is why the Pakistan Test captain could not review it.

The internet was divided following the dismissal as some advocated for better umpiring standards in domestic cricket, while others blamed the umpire for looking to mislead the official.

Babar Azam’s poor run continues with the bat in 2026

Babar Azam is struggling for runs and there is no hiding. His return to domestic cricket has not been the best. So far, he has played 5 innings, including the President Trophy, and has amassed 86 runs, averaging 17.2 with the bat.

In 2026, Babar has scored 815 runs in 22 innings across formats, averaging 37.04. Notably, he is yet to score a century this year. 2015 and 2024 have been the only years in Babar’s career where he has not scored a solitary ton across formats.

Talking about Test cricket, Babar recently toured England with the Pakistan team, where he could only score 97 runs in 4 innings. Even in the recently concluded Tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England, Babar scored 118 runs in 5 innings, averaging 23.60.
