Virat Kohli was ruled out of India squad for the home three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The legendary Indian batter suffered from a hamstring injury concern shortly after unleashing a match-winning 75* for the RCB franchise in the IPL 2026 final late last month.
The 37-year-old is currently preparing himself to attain full recovery for India’s upcoming ODI series in England. Playing only one format for Team India after announcing his Test and T20I retirements, every ODI appearance will now carry added significance for Kohli as he looks to build some 50-overs momentum in India’s road to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.
Fortunately for the Indian cricket team, the former skipper is making good progress and looks all set to feature in the ODI series in England. As per reports, the cricketer will soon be reporting to the CoE for re-evaluation as well as for a fitness test for final confirmation regarding his availability.
Virat Kohli to appear for fitness test on THIS date
According to a report from a Jagran News editor, Virat Kohli is scheduled for a fitness test to confirm his availability for the ODI series in England. The fitness test will likely be conducted on June 22 later this month, i.e., roughly two-and-a-half-weeks prior to the first ODI of the three-match series.

The report also states that the fitness test will be conducted in England, likely because the legendary Indian batter has been spending his off-time in the country for the past few years.
Kohli to report to CoE
Another report indicates that Virat Kohli has been already assessed by the CoE team in London and handed over the program to continue the initial phase of his rehabilitation.
It is believed that the cricketer will now himself report to the CoE on June 22 this coming week for re-evaluation. On the basis of the analysis, the BCCI will be expected to plan further and grant him clearance for his availability.
Virat Kohli on a generational run in ODIs, high on confidence with IPL 2026 win
The former Indian captain is enjoying a remarkable purple patch in ODI cricket. Ever since punching out a match-winning 74* against Australia at the SCG in October last year, the legendary Indian batter has mounted 302 runs in three innings against South Africa, and another 240 runs in three innings against New Zealand at home.
Overall, in his last seven ODI innings, Kohli has charted three hundreds and as many fifties, and has aggregated his runs at an unrealistic average of 123.20.
Moreover, Virat Kohli also lifted the IPL 2026 title in Ahmedabad last month alongside the rest of his RCB teammates.
India to tour England in July
Team India is scheduled to tour England in July to play a series of five T20Is and three ODI matches. The five T20Is will be played between July 1 and July 11, with India set to be led by new captain Shreyas Iyer.
The three-match ODI series will be played between July 14 and July 19, and it will serve as another checkpoint in India’s roadmap to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.
