Virat Kohli plundered a thunderous 105* off 60 balls to storm RCB to a huge victory over KKR in match 57 of the IPL 2026 season. The legendary opener clattered 11 boundaries and three sixes to overcome his successive ducks from earlier this month.

In the match against the LSG last week in Lucknow, Kohli got knocked over by a peach from fellow Delhi lad and express paceman Prince Yadav. Yadav’s upright seam delivery pitched on a good length and dismantled Kohli’s off-stump with a 140 kph thunderbolt.

Incidentally, it was later revealed that the seasoned RCB opener himself had assisted Yadav, as admitted by the LSG quick after the match. The speedster’s comments sparked a wave of social media responses, with several fans trolling Virat Kohli for ‘scripting his own downfall’.

Virat Kohli explains why he helped Prince Yadav

While speaking with journalist Mayanti Langer for the official RCB account, Virat Kohli addressed his latest faceoff with Prince Yadav after having helped the speedster in getting his wicket.

The legendary RCB opener said “He bowled a great ball to me, and I told him to bowl in those areas. People are so connected to me that they say why would I help others.”

The 37-year-old also added that he first met Prince Yadav during an earlier Vijay Hazare game for Delhi. The cricketer emphasized the importance of assisting young Indian players and how they can get better in their respective careers to eventually make international debuts for Team India.

Kohli said “I went and played Vijay Hazare, and I didn’t know Prince Yadav at all. On the field he’s intense but he’s such a sweet guy. Ishant knows him, so I got very close to him. Even while playing those Vijay Hazare games, I used to tell him what to do, where to bowl. You have to share experience. And if play have an opportunity to learn and get better in their careers, they eventually play for India. So the standard of cricket remains high.”

Virat Kohli in race for ‘Orange Cap’ in IPL 2026

Despite his long-standing habit of mentoring and guiding younger cricketers for getting his own wicket, the legendary RCB batter has surged back into contention for the IPL 2026 Orange Cap.

His latest match-winning century against the KKR in Raipur helped him reach 484 runs in just 12 innings of the tournament at a prolific average of 53.77. The modern-day batting behemoth is also striking at an astonishing rate of 165.75.

As of now, he is ranked third on the season’s Orange Cap race, finding himself just 24 runs behind table-topper Heinrich Klaasen.

Table-topper RCB to face Punjab Kings

Kohli’s RCB team is also placed at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with eight wins and four defeats from 12 matches. Their NRR currently reads a formidable 1.053, the best among all sides this season.

The defending champions will now take on the Punjab Kings in match number 61 of the tournament on Sunday, May 17 this weekend. The match will be hosted by the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
