Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has been booked in Chandigarh. An FIR has also been lodged against the cricketer-turned-coach for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women.

Father of ex-Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, the FIR against Yograj was registered at Sector 36 Police Station in Chandigarh on Thursday, May 14.

Yograj Singh booked for derogatory remarks in viral clip

As reported by ANI on May 14, Yograj Singh has been booked in Chandigarh for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women. Apparently, the remarks surfaced through a viral clip from a web series.

The video clip was circulated widely on social media over the past few days, eventually triggering much criticism and demands for action against the cricketer-turned-coach.

The report also stated that the FIR was booked under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 62A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

When and where did Yograj Singh make objectionable remarks against women?

Yograj Singh, who also happens to be a Punjabi film and television actor, made the derogatory remarks against women in a particular clip from a web series titled ‘Lukkhe’. The footage has been widely circulated on social media, where Yograj can be seen insulting a female police officer with various expletives.

It is worth noting that after the clip went viral on the internet, Chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission Raj Kaur Gill recommended a strong action against the former Indian cricketer for his act.

The legal provisions made against Yograj Singh are raised in instances of online harassment or objectionable remarks against women. Such provisions are typically invoked in cases involving offensive or derogatory content shared through online or digital platforms that may cause humiliation or public outrage.

What did Chandigarh Police say about the case?

Police officials stated that further investigation into the matter is currently underway. Authorities are expected to examine the viral footage and related circumstances as part of the ongoing probe.

Yograj and his never-ending tryst with controversies

This is not the first time Yograj Singh has found himself in hot water. The cricketer has made several controversial remarks over the years, which even includes some unwanted criticism against former Indian players like Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

Back in 2015, he accused Dhoni for ‘spoiling’ the international career of his son, Yuvraj Singh. Last year in a podcast, the cricketer-turned-coach claimed that he once ‘aimed a gun’ at 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev and even wanted to shoot him on the spot.

A couple of months ago, Yograj absurdly blamed the wives and children for players taking early retirements in their careers.

While speaking with InsideSport, he said “You know what happens: your ladies of the house, your wives, they start coaching you, telling you it’s time to retire, time to look after the family, the kids. So I believe women should not come in between the legendary prospect of an athlete.”
