In a massive setback for Australia, swashbuckling batter Travis Head has been ruled out of the upcoming international cricket series against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Australia's regular skipper Mitchell Marsh's participation is also doubtful, with reports claiming the right-hander could miss at least the first ODI due to injury.

After the conclusion of the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, Australia will travel to Bangladesh for a multi-format series, including three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Travis Head ruled out of BAN Vs AUS ODIs

Travis Head recently featured in the IPL 2026 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The dynamic batter had a torrid start to the series before bouncing back with several impactful knocks in the later stage of the competition.

However, as reported by Code Sports, Travis Head is all set to miss the ODI series against Bangladesh. The southpaw had returned to home after participating in the IPL 2026

Renowned Australian journalist Daniel Cherny has reported that Head, who was rested for the Pakistan series, will also be unavailable for the Bangladesh ODIs. It has yet to be revealed whether Travis Head will return to the Asian country for the T20I series.

Mitchell Marsh doubtful for Bangladesh tour

On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of LSG's final group-stage match of the IPL 2026 due to an ankle injury. The Australian opener showcased red-hot batting form in the tournament, amassing 563 runs at an average of 43.31 and a blistering strike rate of 163.19.

The Code Sports report states that Mitchell Marsh won't likely play the first ODI, as he has yet to recover from the ankle injury.

Despite being an integral member of Australia's white-ball setup, Mitchell Marsh's career has been marred by frequent fitness setbacks. He began his career as an allrounder, but his proneness to injuries restricted Mitchell Marsh's role to a specialist batter at the latter half of his career.

Daniel Cherny has reported that Marsh could return for the subsequent matches of the Bangladesh tour only if he receives a fitness clearance.

Josh Inglis to lead Australia with no clarity on Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins missed a majority of the IPL 2026 due to a recurring back injury. The Australian skipper returned for the fag end of the competition, representing SRH in eight matches.

However, as Cricket Australia continues to manage his workload ahead of a busy Test schedule, Josh Inglis will lead the white-ball team for the time being.

The destructive keeper-batter captained the team in the recently concluded ODI series in Pakistan, where the visitors suffered a crushing 2-1 defeat to the home side.

Meanwhile, with Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh likely to miss out on selection, Inglis will spearhead the Australian batting unit alongside Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green.

As far as their bowling unit is concerned, Australia will rely on Nathan Ellis, who emerged as their most successful performer against Pakistan with seven scalps.

The eyes will also be on Matthew Kuhnemann, Adam Zampa and Ben Dwarshuis, with the Aussies eyeing ODI redemption after their most recent defeat against Pakistan.

Australia's tour of Bangladesh commences with the three-match ODI series on June 9. The ODI matches will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, while Chattogram will host the T20I fixtures on June 17, 19 and 21, respectively.
