Shimron Hetmyer has been West Indies’ best batter in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, as the southpaw is amongst the leading run-getters in the ongoing tournament. On Sunday, against India in a virtual knockout, the destructive batter achieved a stellar feat as he surpassed Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan in a six-hitting record.

Hetmyer needed two big hits to become the player with “most sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition”, and he attained that record in style as he smacked Varun Chakravarthy for a maximum and went past Sahibzada Farhan in this elusive list.

Currently, Hetmyer has 19 sixes, while the Pakistan opener had 18, and he even achieved the feat in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Batters with most sixes in a single T20 World Cup edition

19 - Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies) in 2026*

18 - Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) in 2026

17 - Nicholas Pooran (West Indies) in 2024

16 - Chris Gayle (West Indies) in 2012

16 - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan) in 2024

The West Indian batter has been a six-hitting machine in the ongoing World Cup and has been the main reason why the team is fighting for a place in the semis. Before the match against India, the left-handed batter was tied with Nicholas Pooran (17 sixes each), but two massive hits took him past the Pakistan batter.

Apart from Hetmyer and Pooran, another West Indian makes the list, with Chris Gayle smashing 16 sixes in the 2012 edition. Afghanistan batter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz occupies the fifth spot with 16 sixes in the 2024 season.

Even before the start of the T20 World Cup, the West Indian batter was in red-hot form, as he was given the license to attack at numner 3 spot. He is currently the fourth-highest run-getter in the T20 World Cup 2026 with 248 runs in 7 innings, with a strike rate of 186.47.

In almost every match, the destructive player has delivered the goods for the Windies as he has laid a strong foundation for the middle-order batters

West Indies' struggles without Hetmyer vs India

In the India vs West Indies Super 8 match, Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and he had no hesitation in electing to field first. The decision was repaid by the bowlers as Roston Chase and Shai Hope, the two Windies openers, struggled for runs.

While Chase was still trying to score quick runs, Hope failed to deliver as the duo added a sluggish 68 runs for the opening wicket. Once Hope departed, Hetmyer changed the course of the game as he scored a quick-fire 27 off 12.

It was almost as if the batter was playing on a different track altogether, as his knock included a solitary four, and two huge hits. However, just as he departed, the old scoring rate was back as India tightened the screws on the scoring rate, and never allowed the Windies to run away with the contest.
