In the absence of Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud rose to the occasion like never before during Bangladesh’s 1st Test against Australia, taking place at Marrara Cricket Ground, Darwin. The 26-year-old finished with impeccable figures of 5/66, as Bangladesh bundled out Australia for 198 in the first innings.

With that, Hasan achieved a rare feat that no Bangladeshi player has ever come close to.

Hasan Mahmud Stamps Authority In Australia After India & Pakistan

Despite being off and on for Bangladesh, Mahmud created history on Thursday, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Australian soil in Tests. He achieved a similar feat against India and Pakistan as well, going there to play Test matches, and left the country by becoming the first from the country to bag five-wicket hauls.

Simultaneously, it was Hasan’s best-ever bowling figures in Test cricket.

Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Join Mahmud To Tear Australia Apart

Given that Australia are known for being the best in the business across formats, and they particularly show formidable authority whenever they play at home, it was a memorable performance from Mahmud, ably supported by Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain.

Although Mahmud fittingly completed the remarkable fifer with the wicket of Steve Smith, who fell for a gritty 109-ball 71, it was Taskin and Ebadot who kept him supported from the other end.

Ebadot took the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey, while Cameron Green and Beau Webster were Taskin’s victims. All four were equally significant successes compared to Mahmud’s heroics.

Australia’s innings lasted 53 overs, and 44 out of them were bowled by the pace trio, Taskin, Ebadot and Hasan Mahmud. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam bowled the other nine overs.
