In a hilarious social media exchange, India captain Shubman Gill replied to a reel featuring legend Virat Kohli and his son Akaay. Gill apparently agreed to be Akaay's uncle for a parent-teacher meeting.

It all started with an Instagram reel where a girl created an imaginary school trouble involving Akaay Kohli. The video joked about how a teacher might deal with the son of such a famous cricketer.

Shubman Gill’s reply to Akaay Kohli reel goes viral

The girl in the reel pretended to scold Akaay Kohli and asked him to bring his parents, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, to the school. But later, she asked him to bring his uncle, Shubman Gill, instead.

While the post was clearly meant as a joke, Gill decided to play along, tagging Kohli in the comments and seemingly volunteering to come to his former captain’s rescue.

The captain wrote, “@virat.kohli bhai dw i gotchu 😂”, which roughly translates to, “Virat bhai, don’t worry, I’ve got you.” The simple comment was enough to send cricket fans into a frenzy.

So far, Virat Kohli has not responded to Shubman Gill. But fans are already loving this moment. The Instagram reel generated thousands of likes and lakhs of views in no time.

Virat Kohli stays away from the banter

Having said that, what makes this interaction amusing is that Virat Kohli does not usually engage in random social media comments. He likes to live a private life away from the public eye.

Kohli values his privacy a lot, and hence he moved to London along with his wife Anushka and kids Vamika and Akaay to live a peaceful and normal life. In fact, both Virat and Anushka have hidden their kids' faces from the public eye to ensure they get to live an ordinary life without any privileges.

Needless to say, with Virat Kohli being extremely protective about his kids, he is unlikely to respond to Shubman Gill’s playful social media banter. Regardless, the banter served as a reminder of strong camaraderie between Gill and Kohli.

Kohli-Gill’s senior-junior relationship

All things set aside, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have always shared a unique bond. Gill has grown up in an era where Kohli's intensity, fitness standards and approach to international cricket have been impossible for young Indian players to ignore.

Naturally, Shubman developed a similar approach to his mentor Kohli, especially as a batter, as his journey has been similar to that of Virat. Later, when he took over as India's ODI captain, Kohli supported him at every step to ensure a smooth transition.

To this day, the duo shares a strong bond, be it on the field or off the field. And this camaraderie is something rare in Indian cricket, where insecurity often tends to creep in.

With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, Shubman Gill will surely look forward to having Virat Kohli around for valuable insights and to using the latter’s experience to his and the team’s advantage.
