A video of MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant has gone viral on social media, but for all the wrong reasons. The duo were spotted partying together but the mention of ‘hookah’ and ‘alcohol,’ caught the fans’ eyes.
Dhoni and Pant, two of India’s prominent wicketkeeper-batters, have always shared a great bond off the field. They’ve spent time together after IPL 2026 and were seen together in places including Ranchi and during India's Sri Lanka tour.

However, this time around, the duo landed in a controversy. In a video that is now viral on social media, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni were seen partying with a few friends.
But according to fans’ interpretation, Pant appeared drunk, and there were several alcoholic drinks visible on the table. Further in the video, Rishabh Pant repeatedly calls out to Dhoni, who comes over and shakes his hand.
MS Dhoni then says that he is going downstairs to consume “hookah,” and Rishabh Pant adds that he’ll join him later. The entire private conversation was caught on camera and later went viral. Fans accused the duo of being bad role models and trolled Dhoni’s liking for ‘hookah.’

MS Dhoni’s past hookah connection
Interestingly, this is not an isolated incident. In January 2024, a video circulated showing MS Dhoni apparently smoking hookah at a social gathering in Dubai.
Later, an old interview by former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan resurfaced in 2025. Pathan suggested that Dhoni had a close group of players during his captaincy and that players who participated in hookah sessions with him were allegedly favoured.
Not only that, but former Australia captain George Bailey also said in 2018 that MS Dhoni liked hookah and would sometimes set it up in his room, where younger players could come in, relax and talk.
Apart from this, players like Michael Hussey and Sam Billings also revealed instances where MS Dhoni travelled with a hookah. While consuming hookah is not illegal, it definitely hampers Dhoni’s clean image, as after all, it’s a tobacco substance.
Did MS Dhoni ever address the Hookah controversy?
The hookah controversy around MS Dhoni first erupted in 2024 and later intensified in 2025. Despite repeated accounts shared by his former teammates, Dhoni never addressed the accusations directly.
The ex-legend is a man of few words, and he barely speaks on any issues. Moreover, since stepping down as CSK captain, his public appearances have further reduced.
Hence, MS Dhoni has stayed away from the noise for the longest time. But whether he will address the claims about his recent video with Rishabh Pant remains to be seen.
